    Captain's obligation to divers

"A vessel which, through some exceptional circumstance, is unable to maneuver as required by these rules and is therefore unable to keep out of the way of another vessel"

    Bum Poseidon?

Another thought - the older diaphragms on these, before they went to silicone, rot out and still work MUCH better than you'd imagine they would with gaping holes in them. When I thought mine was bad and we opened it up, I was stunned the reg had been working at all.

    Bum Poseidon?

It's most certainly a direct hazard to your life. I'll do you a favor and give you five bucks for the Cyklon - for your own good. But seriously, look inside the second stage mouthpiece. See that white plastic sleeve with an oblong opening? Poseidon calls it the 'Ejector Sleeve'. It does about...

"Vicious Seal Attack" at Isle of Shoals - caught on tape!

I've treated seal bites several times. Stoopid people on the beach trying to pet them, or thinking they were stranded and trying to drag them back into the water. Nasty, nasty business. They're cute, but I'd rather they stay the hell away from me in the water.

    I made newbie mistakes

Just a thought - could you have untucked the gauge without undoing the cummerbund? The rig I use scallop diving is simply a steel HP100 on a plastic backplate over a Jetsuit drysuit. Just an old Poseidon Cyklon and an SPG, nothing else. To keep it from dangling and to know where to grab it (you...

    Ultimate cold water reg?

Strongly concur on the Cyklon 300 (the Mega-Purge 300). Won't fail on you, and after the dive you can use it to smash the ice off everything else! Tried a Jetstream a few times, but I'm still just a lot more comfortable with my old Cyklon. I HAVE found that when it gets real cold I need to close...

    Reg disassembly advice needed

Beat on it with an old Poseidon Cyklon as a hammer. Then, if you still can't get it loose, dive the Cyklon.

    Diving by yourself

I think it's fine for me to do it. Whether or not it's fine for you, only you can decide.

Funniest Diving quotes you have heard

And herein lies the (one of the) reason drinking and diving is NOT a good idea. BTW, it's a real pain to wash out and dry the inside of a Jetsuit.

If you were buying a new drysuit today, which one would you buy?

5 pages and nobody has mentioned Poseidon. Not exactly easy to find, but in the Northeast (New Jersey, yes?) you should be able to find a few dealers - and a few believers in Poseidon products. I have a Jetsuit, 5mm neoprene, with latex wrists that keeps me bone dry and warm as I could possibly...

    Drysuit question

Suggest you take a look at Poseidon drysuits. I have a Jetsuit with latex wrist seals for my bony wrists, and it keeps me bone dry and warm as can be with nothing but thin Under-Armour under it. I have a Exotherm II that will fit between me and the suit if need be, but so far, down to 39...

Who would you like to dive with?

Nah, just Sarah, and only so we could see her in a wetsuit.

What really creates an OOA scenario?

An empty tank. That was easy. Sorry, had to do it or I wouldn't be able to sleep tonight. To be serious, though, which does pain me to do, it is 100% human error. Anybody here who has served or worked underway will understand this already, but it's an odd concept to grasp - anything bad...

Would you dive with someone who wouldn't share air if you were OOA?

I believe I would dive with such a person. They can't talk underwater, so how annoying could they really be. And if I really am OOA, and really need it, I'll get it from them, just as any truly OOA diver would (asphyxiation is a powerful motivator to get what you want, I reasonably assume)...
