Multiple deaths diving off NC coast May 10, 2020?

There are conflicting details online but there appeared to have been 2-3 deaths off the NC coast today. Does anybody know anything definitive?

Downloading DC 2000 photos to a computer

Just upgraded from a DC 1200 to a DC 2000. Still sorting things out. Lots o nice new features. Do I understand things correctly that there are wireless options to my phone or my ipad but NOT to a computer which is where I eventually want them. Is the only option for downloading to my...

    NC Fatality?

Have heard comments about a fatality off the southern part of the NC coast during memorial day weekend 2019. Will not repeat them since all second hand. There seems to be no reports in the local news. And some folks are being very tight lipped. Any one seen any public information or reports?

    Dying Lion Fish ?

There have been recent sightings of schools of dead or sick lionfish. They have a large sore on the side almost like a cookie cutter shark hit them. But it appears that it may be a virus. Scientists are trying to sort out what is happening. Is it a virus? Which virus? Is it a threat to...

Safety Stops, NDL, and other numbers

I firmly believe in safe diving and think computers make me safer. But it is good to keep in mind that the numbers you see are approximations and subject to some variability. It is the built in safety margins that make this ok. That got driven home on a recent dive where I was coming up the...

    Digital Pro Flash Problem

On a recent dive trip my flash worked before the dive when I tested it and for maybe one picture. But then throughout the dive it did not flash. I could see it was on and I could see the camera was flashing (DC1200). When I got home I tested it again and it flashed every times I tried it...

    Trust Me Dives

One of the more common themes on ScubaBoard is "though shalt not do trust me dives." Perhaps some perspective is needed. First off I am not saying that one should go deep into a cave with no cave experience or other dives that are way outside your training. Nor that you should do something...

    Digital Pro Flash Problem

When I turn on my digital pro flash it keeps flashing, flash, flash, flash This started during a dive. My guess is that the camera got moisture in it somehow? Note I always lock it up at home. Is the flash toast and unreliable or can it be saved?

    Destination Suggestion?

My nondiving wife and I are thinking of going to the Carribean for a few days to celebrate our 50th. We are looking for a laid back trip. -Some convenient and easy diving for me to do. I like reefs and shallow wrecks to watch critters -No prop planes. She almost got taken out on one once and...

    Looking for a 4/3 Fullsuit

I find that for me a 4/3 is a great warmer water wetsuit. Less bulky then a 5 but a tad warmer than a 3 without requiring a hood and vest. I don't move much underwater and around here there are thermoclines sometimes in summer. My 11 year old 4/3 has "shrunk" plus it has a lot dives on it...

    Logtrak for Mac

Purchased a scubapro dive computer. Home computer is a mac running 10.7.5. Downloaded Logtrak. No problem downloading dive profiles and dive information from dive computer. But as a log the program seems dumb as a stump. I see no way to give the dives a name. If I go to the Hyde wreck I...

    Longer Life Batteries

I have seen an ad for 1200mAh batteries for a sealife DC1200 to use as a replacement for the Sealife batteries which are only 700mAh and almost never make it through two dives. Is there any reason not to use them? (Note that essentially all pictures on a dive are shot with the flash and I use...

    Flexible 5mm wetsuit?

I currently have a 7mm H2 Hyperstretch size LS that I like and a 10 year old 4/3 which has a couple hundred dives on it and is now probably a 2/1. I want to add a 5 mm to use when the 7mm is more than what is needed (and going to a thinner suit lets me drop some weight) but when I tried to...

    Around Madison??

My nondiving son has just moved to Madison. So I expect to be there a few times in the next few years probably in the Spring/summer/Fall. What are the options for local diving? Quarry, Lake, ?? I do not mind lower viz but do like to be able to see. Probably just rent gear for a day or two...

At last a guide to NC fishes

Reef Fish Identification - Florida Caribbean Bahamas by Humann and De Loach is a fantastic book. However, NC draws in fish species from north and south and the book does not cover all the fish we see locally especially with pictures. The situation is worse with the lighter travel version which...

    Shuttle service

I like to fly down to the Keys for a few days of diving. Come in Friday, leave Monday. Sit in Key Largo and just dive, walk to the boats, etc. Really only need a car to get to and from the Miami airport. Often do not use it for anything else. Which brings me to my question. How reliable...

Issues with 10 year old regs

I have a 10 year old Aeris first stage and octo I got when certified. They do not have a purge button but the front of the reg flexes in when pushed. After rinsing my regs while pressurized a couple weeks ago when I went to release the air my finger went right through the front of the reg. I...

    Solid blue

This picture was taken off the coast of NC at about 80 ft. There were three fish close together. Two solid blue ones like this one and a yellow tail reeffish. There were several other junvenile beaugregory also in the area. Somehow it did not look right for a blue chromis to me. Seemed...

    Oyster? Scallop?

This was at 80 ft down 25 miles off the coast of NC. I have seen it a couple times before but this is first time out in the open. This one was 4-5 inches across. Cannot find photo in my guides. The two crabs are arrow head crabs.

    Key Largo Tank rental?

A buddy and I will be down in Key Largo later this month for a few days. We were thinking of taking off one afternoon to dive Canon Beach looking for sea horses, nudis, or whatever else we can find out there. We would need tanks and weights. Where is a convenient place to rent tanks and...
