Galapagos-Free half day in Puerto Ayora

I will be on Santa Cruz for a very quick work trip. If I have a free afternoon, is there any op that could take me out for a one-tank afternoon dive?

    One-night Liveaboard

I will be in Sydney soon for business, on a fairly tight schedule. I'd love to take an excursion to Cairns and dive the GBR, but only have a couple of days for it. I see that a couple of operators offer one-night trips out of Cairns--can anyone recommend one of these? Especially for a 50ish man...

Need Substitute for Mares "Volo" Power Fins

They're easy to find online. Try Buy scuba gear, scuba diving and snorkeling equipment, and everything underwater from LeisurePro.com.

    Electronic Dive Buddy

Interesting that the researchers believe that buoyancy is controlled by constantly adding and removing air from the BC. I guess they're not divers.

Worthington HP 100s failed first hydro

OP here--thanks everyone for your responses. Quite an education for me. The situation has not been resolved yet, but here's where we are: the tanks have been condemned, and are still at the testing facility. My LDS, which is not the testing facility, works often with the testers and knows a lot...

Worthington HP 100s failed first hydro

Kind of a shock today--my two Worthington HP 100s, purchased new in the fall of 2005, failed their first hydro. Both of them. This is inconceivable to me. The tanks do not have a lot of dives on them--maybe 70 each. Well cared for, never overfilled. The LDS where I purchased them is no longer...

    scuba magazine

I subscribe to the British magazine Diver. Far more interesting articles than any of the American ad-driven mags (although I read them all, and also enjoy Undercurrent). More expensive, but worth it.

    Isla Mujeres dive shops?

Hold on--lost a diver? Last I heard Gilberto was indeed the new owner and operating. Are you saying that Caray is no longer in business? Can anyone confirm this?

    snorkeling with force fins

I love my force fin pros but really haven't mastered them for surface swimming. I just can't keep them in the water. (Face down, that is.) I'm going to be doing some snorkeling this winter on a dive trip and don't want to bring two pairs of fins with me. Can someone offer me some simple...

Gear clones - like generic drugs?

I was looking at a new mask, a Sherwood Rona. I found out that the Tilos Excel was almost identical to the Rona, and then found out that the Promate Raven was absolutely identical to the Tilos Excel. So I bought the Promate Raven for $25. Looks and feels great. I'm thinking that there is some...

    Isla Mujeres dive shops?

(this should move to the regular Mexico list) We're also going to Isla Mujeres for a week this winter. I was certified there so it's always fun to go back. The owner of Coral Scuba Dive Center retired last year, and two new operations grew out of it: Carey Dive Center, which occupies the same...

    Sherwood Rona vs. Tilos Excel

The Sherwood Rona and Tilos Excel look identical to me. Are there any real differences aside from the price?

    Puerto Morelos Recommendation

I can recommend Wet Set--very nice operation with a loyal following.

    Honeymoon in Isla Mujeres

As I understand it, the diving page cited here is out of date. Coral Scuba Dive Center, my old favorite, closed and its former staff have set up a couple of new shops. I think they are called Carey Dive Center and Enrique's Unique Dives. They both should be fine, as they are run by great...

7mm Wetsuit vs 7mm Farmer John

The hooded vest is great, but of course only helps from the waist up. Does anyone know of neoprene of otherwise insulated shorts to wear under the wetsuit? That layer would add a little more warmth and be very welcome, especially in the spring.

New South Caicos resort news clip on you tube..

I take it you’ve never been to the South Caicos “international airport?” I wouldn’t try to book that nonstop flight just yet. Kidding aside, this resort could prove a very mixed blessing when and if it opens. The island could absolutely use the jobs and revenue. But...

    Gray Market and Your Opinion

Interesting that LP is authorized for online sales by Aeris, but not for online sales by Oceanic (I just checked). Those are basically the same company, aren't they?

    Internet Purchases?

You can have it both ways, since Scubatoys (w/factory warranty) will gladly match the Leisure Pro (w/o factory warranty) price. They recently did this for me when I bought an Aeris Atmos AI--which, by the way, is made by Oceanic and is the exactly the same computer as the PP2, except that it is...

playa de carmen wet set dive shop??

Wet Set is a great little operation with a large and loyal following. Please note, however, that they are not in Playa del Carmen--they're in Puerto Morelos, about a 20-25 minute cab ride north of Playa del Carmen.
