This is opening in June of 2009 South Caicos beach resort 4 restaurants casino diving sailing
Sorry Cozumel but looks like I may have a new permanent vacation spot
No cruise ships no pod people just a few minutes from the new international airport
dive sites just minutes away
sunrise on one side of the resort sunset on the other....
I thought I read a few years back in Scuba Diving magazine that there are squadrons of eagle rays
along the walls here.................
Here is the news story if anyone is interested............

YouTube - New Hotel for South Caicos

I'll believe it when I see it open.
I dove there and saw the squadrons of rays though.

If you build it will they come? Quite the gamble.

Do you know what the investment details are? (i.e. price of a unit, is there a rental pool arrangement, annual taxes, management fees, etc.?).

I take it you’ve never been to the South Caicos “international airport?” I wouldn’t try to book that nonstop flight just yet.

Kidding aside, this resort could prove a very mixed blessing when and if it opens. The island could absolutely use the jobs and revenue. But its lobster and conch fishery is teetering on the edge as it is, and the demands of these new restaurants could push it into collapse. It would be very sad to see this small scale lobster exporter turn into a lobster importer.

I hope we don't see the reefs overfished within a year or so of the resort’s opening.

Be careful what we wish for…..

Also, I don’t believe that there is any protection of the reefs in the TCI, as there is at Cozumel or Bonaire, for example. I think we can safely assume that the reefs will be overfished within a year or so of the resort’s opening.

I dove on West Caicos last year, and I know part of that is protected. I saw huge crabs and lobsters there. I don't know about protection on the South though, or how far the preserve extends there.
