    New Diver Needs Equipment Recommendations

Good choice, I have dove the TransPac for 5 years now and would not change for anything. Very comfortable once you have it dialed in and it is bullet proof. The trek wings are great for what you plan to use it for. I would probably tell you to go with the wreck wings as you can move up to small...

How many of u use a snorkel ?

DiverBuoy, I have dove most of Florida's east and west coasts and the Carribean and have never been told I had to have a snorkle. You said that in some places it is the law, where are these locations, I am interested in their reasoning.

    DM's and above

Most of my dives are as a working DM but all are what I consider "fun dives". Some more fun that others.

    Logbook Software

I use the ReefNet Divemaster 2 and really like it. For me it has everything that I need to log my dives, and keeps track of them very well. I can access old dives by date, dive partners, dive sites, etc. And the price was very good. If I remember correctly it was under $30. Hope this has been of...

    Shark TOOTH Hunting

Best area to find shark teeth on Florida's Gulf coast is Venice. About a mile off of the beach. The LDS that runs regular shark tooth trips and is well versed in the fossils found in the area is called West Coast Scuba. LDS's owner's name is Steve Thacker. Give him a call to arrange a charter...

    What is your Scuba-Mobile?

My current dive mobile is a 1989 Cherokee limited for close trips, has 216,00 miles on it so am a little leary of going to far from home with it. For long hauls a 2000 Jeep Cherokee. With either I can haul 4 divers, gear and tanks without a problem. Both are 4 litre in-line 6's and get pretty...

How do you feel about solo diving?

Most of my diving is done solo and in the 50 to 70 foot depth. When diving deeper I carry a small bail out bottle. When I dive with a buddy it is always with the same person, whom I feel I can depend on. I find putting my well being in some one elses hands makes me feel uncomfortable unless I...

Close call w death, must read this

Interacting with Manatees has nothing to do with how many hands you put on them. They have to initiate the contact. If you approach them it is considered harrassement. If they come up to you you can them touch them. Dont let any of the Marine patrol catch you trying to chase after them, big fine

    Scubapro--twin Jet Fin

I have used the ScubaPro split fins for about a year and a half no and love them. Only one area they seem to fail, when on the surface and on my back they seem not to have much power. But that is the only flaw I can find with them. I was used to using the old ScubaPro Jet fins and it took alot...

    TransPac II / Weights??

I have used the transpac for about 3 years now and really like everything about it. Have never had any problems with loosing wieghts. Ziegle makes small add on pockets that slide onto the tank straps that are prefect to trim wieghts. These pockets are like they are made for the Transpac and best...

    Budget backscatter fix

The mx10 has a flash that is attached to the camera body, and too close. The only way to really eliminate backscatter in any camera is to get the flash away from the lens and at a angle to the subject, unless you are shooting in very clear water. Hope that this helps.

    Florida Wrecks

Pinkbubbles my favorite area is from Pompano to Lauderdale. There are tons of wreck dives and operators, all are pretty good. My favorite dive operation is Jim Abernathy's (great group of people and great boats) favorite wreck dive is the Mercedes Hope that you have a great time while here.

How do you clean your equipment?

I have a barrel I keep just for this purpose. When I get home from a day of diving I fill with warm water and soak all my gear over night. If I am on an extended trip I generally throw it all in the hotel shower and run warm water over it for about an hour. Then soak when I get home. All of my...

    Dive knife recommandations?

I carry a small cheap knife which I attach to my inflate hose. Cheap because I seem to lose them very easily, and small because I cant think of anything that I would do with a large one. My most treasured cutting utensil is a line cutter that has a razor blade for a cutting edge and can be...

    Wrist action, best hardware

I own a Aladin Air X Nitrox and a Oceanic Data Plus. Both are good computers but my favorite is the Aladin. Upside of the Aladin: easy to program, easy to read, instant on when you hit the water, one less hose to deal with. Downside: not backlite, non user replaceable batteries. The Data Plus...

    Wetsuit Sizing

I am not exceptionaly tall or large, 6'1" and 210 but I always hated wearing wetsuits, to tight and hard to get on. I ordered a suit from Liquid Fit and it is the best fitting suit yet. They custom fit them to your needs and do an excellent job of it. Mine slides on and off with ease and is very...

    Steel vs. Alum (see txt)

I own 3 OMS steel 98's and love them. I prefer them over aluminum for several reasons. The main one being they are neautral bouyant when empty, unlike aluminum. As for being heavier than aluminum there is little difference. I opted to the low pressure tanks as they are a little easier on my...

    new regulaters

I use the seaquest air source and find it breaths well at depth and is always easy to access. I have been in the situation of having another diver in an out of air situation panic and the first thing they reached for was my regulator so having my octo on my b/c made for a quick source of air for...

    Uneducated fool.....

Tomcat, nurse sharks have been likened to a pit bull. Once they clamp onto something they really hold on. They have very powerfull jaws as they feed mostly on crusteceans. At Mote Marine we where told that their jaws will "lock" onto something and you actually have to cut them lose. Oh well. I...
