The solo diving mentality with a buddy diver

It never ceases to amaze me how much people on scubaboard can completely 100% (okay, let's say 98.5%) agree with each other and yet continue to argue over semantics and wordplay. Some of these terms you guys are arguing don't even have an real meaning! Honestly, who the hell cares what one...

Best after dive place to eat for SoCal?

Niko's is another pretty good one around here as well. (Oh, and if you love giant delicious fresh subs try Busy Bee).

Hawthorne Reef and Haggerty's Crane Dives

Awesome, thanks. I need to start saving a list of dive sites around me. (Luckily most of the shore dives are all in the Sheckler book :p).

    car keys + shore diving

That's funny. Be careful, though! My friend had an accord with one of those electronic unlocking/locking keys. I'd bumped into that car, used the windows, etc while locked and nothing.. But one day I used the key and unlocked the car and opened it without using the unlock button.. It had an...

    Anyone ever solo under ice?

Took me a couple moments to finally realize what was going on in that pic, haha.

    Mr. C Boat Schedule?

My opinion.. That's the internet for you. Misunderstandings, misinterpreting people's tone in text, talking to people and mistaking them for someone else. I for one have had my share of stupid internet arguments and have since become very careful with what I say, hehe. All you need is a tiny...

Man dies in Redondo Beach diving accident

I think it's good having two threads. One local and one in the accidents/incidents board. Here's a link to the other, though http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/socal/358620-diver-given-cpr-redondo-beach.html

Is it ok to ask to join a random group of divers on the spot?

Early on it might be kinda hard to find buddies, and everyone always seems so busy. If you find a popular site where the dive clubs and groups (especially free groups) meet up on a regular basis and show up then, I'd imagine it'd be much easier for you to find a buddy. That's what I did down...

    ...and I'm back...

Welcome back! I'm pretty new here. New at diving, still figuring out that weighting and trim and buoyancy stuff, but if you're ever diving around San Pedro area and need a buddy give me a message. :) You hike in the National Forest? What do you do out there? See stuff, take pictures, commune...

    Yet Another Dive Report

Great pics as always. Awesome crab! The few crabs I've seen are definitely pretty belligerent. I chosen to use one of my limited 'thank's on you. ;)

It doesn't end! :O She just keeps eating and eating! It's freaking me out. :shakehead:

    Front Zip vs Back Zip

One very small factor that might be worth considering.. At least it was for me.. They both work. I'm a big guy and even with a size too small I can get a front zip wetsuit off while wet or dry relatively easily (not as easily as a back zip, but no biggie). But the thing is, during surface...

Got a Trek Fan diver in your life?

Wait wait wait.. A dive club? In SoCal? Named after Gene Roddenberry, creator of Star Trek? Wow. How much did he contribute towards ST: TNG? Just curious. Anyway.. That's freaking awesome. Hehe. I wasn't sure until I saw this thread who 'Roddenberry' was supposed to be. Some famous diver? :p...

    BP/W is just a tool

I don't understand what the point is here (I didn't follow the argument). I find it likely that there are more people (who've tried both) who prefer bp/w than who prefer 'other'. But I didn't know anyone was arguing against that. I agree.. It's all over this forum.. I always feel like I...

    car keys + shore diving

I have a soft top and it's always a balance of.. If someone wants to break in they can just take a knife to it and.. trying to not make it too easy, heh. I should probably get an alarm or something, but that costs money! :O I usually leave my keys with whoever I'm buddying with. I was...
