    Brett Hemphill

Heard the terrible news today of Brett’s passing. Zero details out there right now, but he was an amazing cave explorer and an all around good guy. My thoughts go out to his family…he has left the world far too soon.

    Ginnie at night

With summertime in full swing, does anyone dive Ginnie at night regularly? I work nights, but have an annual pass so I can get in 24/7. I was wondering if there are any interesting things to look out for when getting a dive in at odd late evening/early morning hours. I’d assume it’s pretty...

Do you run a primary at sites like the Eye at Ginnie?

Been seeing a few folks not running a line down to the goldline in the eye. I know the goldline was extended to where it now is to keep multiple teams from running primaries down the chute, however it is still at the back of the cavern. I can see how someone could talk themselves into not...

    Moving to SD

Hi y’all, been absent for a while, mostly just enjoying diving and family. I got orders to head to San Diego in February, and I’m looking for some gouge. -where in SD can I get Good O2 and Dil fills? -any active tech groups that are diving regularly? I have exercised my googlefu and see...

    Trimix stick

Going to build a simple Trimix stick for a Maxair35. Should be a simple build, but I’ve never made a stick for a small compressor. I’d gues that a 2” stick 36” long would be sufficient, but am debating how many baffles to use. 3? 4?

    UV26 conversion to UV18?

Id like to be able to convert my UV26 to a short body...for weight purposes. Is that even a thing? I bought the 26 for caves, but it’s too freaking big for wreck diving...since someone has to drag it onto the boat.

    Scooter weighting

I picked up a UV-26 used. I haven’t got it in the water yet, but it has zero trim weight in it. I will assume that it’s not even close to nuetral. I understand the concept of how and where to add weight, but what is the general consensus of “how” to weight it. Nuetral? A hair positive? I...

    Ginnie fatality

Shearwater never ceases to amaze me with top notch customer service

Shearwater research is an excellent company, I don't think anyone here would disagree. I just bought an O2ptima with a Petrel2 controller. I wanted to have a backup computer for deco purposes, so out came my trusty old Predator. To my surprise, it was not unlocked for CCR. After looking...

    O2ptima expedition blocks

Should be a simple question. I have the expedition blocks on my o2ptima. The O2 side is simple enough, and if I need to go to offboard O2 I have to disconnect the O2 hose and swivel it down to plug off board. The Dil side however is just an empty swivel block. If I hook up off board gas and...

    Bailout cylinder options

I'm looking at bailout options. I'm primarily a wreck diver. I am going to breakdown the majority of my doubles and get rid of them...however, I have 2 sets of lp72's. I'd like to keep one set for the occasional OC dive. 72's seem like they would be sweet bailout tanks as they are lighter...

    Million Dollar Bike Ride

Good Morning ScubaBoard. I am riding in a charity cycling event put on by UPENN called the Million Dollar Bike Ride on May 7th. www.milliondollarbikeride.org Its a pretty cool event and a HUGE opportunity for research teams of orphan diseases to generate much needed funding. UPENN matches the...

    Canister light battery

I was given an older dive rite wreck can light with an MR-11 light head on it, but the battery is lead acid 12v 2.9ah...and it's dead. Assuming it would fit in the canister would there be any problems with putting say a 12v 10ah nimh battery in as a replacement?

    key largo dive report deep

Was able to beat the wind witch and get out to the Vitric today. Topside conditions stayed around 3 ft 84 degrees and about .5kt current. Viz was 100'+ top to bottom, and the current on the bottom was negligible. Water temp dropped to 66 and stayed there from 260'-300'. Unfortunately I think...

first blow out of my season...

Well I got the dreaded call today...no diving tomorrow for me. Even though I schedule twice as many dives as I really want to go on, it always feels like I put on a condom and my date passed out drunk...lol. Try again next weekend I suppose.

difficulties of finding a diver's body

On a more somber note, has anyone been looking for this guy? Are they just searching the drift area, or are they planning to do a legit search of the wreck? I could imagine a search inside that wreck would take weeks to do systematically. This thread was split from a discussion in the...

    rEvo CCR Trim

Ok, call this a silly question. Some folks know that I have been mulling around with the idea of buying a rEvo. I have noticed a trend in pretty much every video that I have seen that has a rEvo diver. Their trim blows. I guess the question is...Are rEvo's really that difficult to trim...

    boulderjohn?
