Reefs, big animals, warm water in Caribbean ?

For my next out of the country trip I want to cater to my wife's interest (warm water, reefs, not too deep), but I would also like to have a good chance to get close to some big animals (mantas, sharks, eagles, sea lions, etc). Where in the Caribbean would be a good bet for this ? We have been...

    Ocotal Nov 20-27, 2010

Hi-- I will be going on a dive shop sponsored trip to the Ocotal resort over thanksgiving (Nov 20-27). Can anyone tell me what the diving conditions might be during that period ? I dont know the exact details yet, but I know that we are scheduled for daily morning dives which I assume means...

Uemis SDA-- excellent customer support !

After one year and about 90 dives my Uemis SDA mis-behaved after my last dive trip. I had originally purchased the unit from the online store in Switzerland (no US distributors at the time), so I called the company and was told I should send the unit to Switzerland in to be checked out. I sent...

Bonaire last week: I liked Curacao more--but just a little

We had a great trip to Bonaire last week (5/22-5/29/10). We stayed at Buddies which was just fine. Last year we went to Curacao and stayed at Habitat Curacao. Both Bonaire and Curacao are wonderful dive locations, however, both my wife and I decided that we liked Curacao just a little bit...

Bonaire-- best house reef / most deluxe accommodations

We're planning a one week trip to Bonaire at the end of May. I have received a quote for a package at Captain Don's. Before I pull the trigger on that I thought I'd just explore a bit further. We plan on doing a lot of diving on the house reef where ever we stay, so a really nice house reef is...

    Group diving and photography

I've had enough dives with my camera now to figure something out: Everytime I dive with a "group" , I feel rushed when it comes to photography. On my last trip (without my usual wife-buddy), I had a couple of instances where I stopped for only a short time ( < 3 min) to take a shot only to...

    Banda Sea Pics

Here is a link to some pics from my Banda Sea trip last week. I know some of them aren't the best composed shots, but I thought some of them might be of interest. I certainly saw more variety of sealife than I have ever before ! Site Title Thanks for looking, Dan

    D300/MDX300 frozen focus square

Topside everything works fine, but at depth, I couldnt move the focus square around the screen with my D300/MDX300. The buttons worked for menu items and pic viewing/scrolling, but just wouldnt move the square around. Same settings worked at the surface. It's probably something stupid on my...

    Curacao trip report 9/29-10/05

We had a wonderful trip last week in Curacao. We stayed at Habitat and did 16 dives total during the 6 days that we dove. Habitat was wonderful, the diveops at Easy Divers (Hugo,Clark,Kurt and Angela) were awesome people and took great care of us, not to mention the great boat dives they took us...

Pics from Curacao trip last week

We had a wonderful trip to Curacao last week. We stayed at Habitat and did 16 dives, 15 of them with my D300 setup. Here is a site with some of the pics. I really would appreciate some criticisms despite their bitter taste :) ! I'm going to Indonesia in a week (Banda Sea) for 11 days on a live...

    S&S MDX 300 portrait position

I have a Sea and Sea MDX 300 with TTL converter and dual strobes. I was wondering if anyone with this housing has modified it so that a strobe could be mounted on one of the lower corners for better strobe positions for portrait (vertical) shots ?

    UW Photography and air consumption

I find that when I am taking pictures that I consume air faster than when I dont have my camera. I was just curious if this was true of others? When taking pictures I am not covering as much ground, but I'm doing a lot of fining and back fining to stay on the subject.

    Grateful to community

My wife and I just returned from our first real scuba vacation at a dive resort in Curacao. While there I came to the realization of just how close knit the diving community is. I really felt like I was part of something much bigger than just the immediate divers. There was a concern for each...

    electricity in Curacao

According to various websites, the electricity in Curacao is 110-130 Volts at 50 Hz. We'll be staying at Habitat. Will I be able to recharge batteries and laptop ? Will I need any special adapters ? All of my stuff is standard US 60 Hz Thanks !

    Attire in Curacao

We are going to Curacao (staying at Habitat) Sept 28-Oct 5. It is the trip that we had to postpone last month (my wifes father passed away 3 days before our scheduled departure), so I am getting excited all over again. With my camera gear and dive gear I already have two 48 lb checkin bags and...

    Sea&Sea TTL converter issue

On a dive last weekend the power light on my TTL converter started blinking and soon after my strobes were not firing every time, only once out of three. Shortly after that they wouldn't fire at all. When I got back to the hotel I sat down with the user manual and couldn't find any info about...
