We are going to Curacao (staying at Habitat) Sept 28-Oct 5. It is the trip that we had to postpone last month (my wifes father passed away 3 days before our scheduled departure), so I am getting excited all over again.
With my camera gear and dive gear I already have two 48 lb checkin bags and two carry ons and only have room for a couple of pairs of shorts and some t-shirts. My wife is asking about bringing fancier clothes for restaurants. Might we need some ?

Thanks !

What a great excuse not to have to pay the big bucks to go to the high end restaurants! You'd need fancy clothes for maybe a half dozen places.
The locals LOVE to dress up, but in the same places you'll see tourists much more casually dressed. Dress shorts and a nice shirt is sufficient at most restaurants and there are many where tee shirts are perfectly fine.

It really depends what restaurants you go to. You could easily eat only at places where tshirts are fine. But there are definitely some places you'd want at least nice shorts or long pants and a collared shirt, that sort of thing. Long pants are also nice if you're eating outside and it's buggy.

I've noticed that local people tend to dress up much more than the tourists at nicer places. But not sure there is anyplace they would actually kick you out rather than take your money.

Thanks ! It looks like I'll stuff a pair of pants and a collared shirt into my wife's suitcase :).

If you go to Sol Food in Westpunt there is a dress code, but Sunshine will loan you a sport coat if necessary, although it may not match your tie. Your wife should be sure to wear a nice dress or designer pantsuit or something along those lines. Thankfully, a Tux is not necessary.

Okay, fine, I'll add smileys...:wink::wink::wink: But, anyone who took post seriously needs to research their trip a bit more before they go to Curacao! I might just take a tie with me next month and see what happens.

On a serious note, I do usually wear long pants in the evening, to slow down the skeeters.

I bet people dress nicer when going to the casinos and such in Willemstad, at least that's what I would expect from watching some James Bond movies.

:shakehead::shakehead::shakehead: You need to add a bunch of "Smilies" to that answer :no::no:

If you show up with a tie at Sol Food, I will bet that it is cut off and placed in the middle of your pizza :wink: That's why Andreas carries that BIG dive knife with him at all times.

(Sunshine - December is getting closer and closer).

Hehehe-- I cant remember the last time I wore a tie anywhere !

You should have a nice time. The house reef is nice, the food is good... My only complaint was no Guiness at the bar. I did run into some seriously hot jerk sauce the night of the barbecue--be warned!

No Guiness !!! The horror....

I love Guiness too

Hi guys,

It's not that Curacao is free of any Guinness products: you can buy bottled Guinness beer at the supermarket; but believe me, it's horrible - some poison brewed only for export, not the original stuff!!! Well, you know, real Guinness doesn't like to travel, so better drink it in Ireland  On Curacao, go for Polar beer!

Greetings from Curacao
