Several years ago, Deep 6, had a strong presence and brand support on SB. I’ve got one of their regs and other products, which I’m still very happy with. In 2020, Deep 6 withdrew active participation within SB and since then I’ve seen far fewer communications and product promotions from Deep 6.

Does anyone know what is going on with Deep 6? Just wondering.

Solution
Hey folks, Chris here.

To clear up a couple things.

I am still a shareholder at Deep 6, that isn't changing. In another few weeks my family and I are headed off to travel and do some adventures. My daughter is 15 and we have decided it's time. We will be diving, doing some school (kid and me, I have a couple classes and a MBA thesis to write), and generally doing a sabbatical.

So, I won't be involved in the day to day stuff. I will still do shareholder meetings, input in strategic direction, and the most fun for me, product development. But, yeah, I will not be a Deep 6 shareholder AND employee, just shareholder.

Regarding why we have been posting less in SB, which is something that has always been important to me. About 3 years...
My concern with regs is that you will be bought by a bigger company (what happened with zeagle) and the parts which you graciously allow end users to get and easily do self service will go away.
Atomic was bought by Huish, Shearwater has been sold, Ford bought Jaguar, United and Continental merged... the list goes on. If we all sat at home worrying about what might happen to our favorite company tomorrow, no one would be able to buy anything or go anywhere.

Deep6 has great products and service and that's why I use their gear.

Hands down, best customer service and just a bunch of really nice, considerate people. They bought back a pair of used XXL Eddies from me that I still need to cash in. I didn't even buy them from them. Incredible. That Excursion is soooooo sexy.....

I mentioned zeagle for a reason when huish bought them Apeks refused to make/provide parts for them anymore. Making service for the older ones very difficult.

As far as I know the HOG manuals are not posted publicly for anyone to download. D6 does that. Not saying you can't find them, just that they're a little harder to get (again, as far as I know). D6 posts them directly on their website. Couldn't be any more supportive than that.
That's not the statement that was made. HOG is the model that Deep6 modeled after as Chris originally started the HOG model, so to say Deep6 is THE ONLY company to support user serviceability is simply false. And just like HOG, Deep6 follows along with the "certified tech" path for service, that's why they provide a class.

So to be a little blunt here since we have @LandonL back on here.

I have done some business with you guys and have found it pleasant and with good costumer service.

Ok, I will reciprocate and respond by being blunt as well.

We have actually turned down several offers to buy Deep6. We didn't even get to discussing the money part because neither I, nor Chris, are interested in selling.

We enjoy what we do and we like working together. I think I speak for both of us when I say Deep6 represents something different than 'just a company'. As for me specifically, Deep6 is a very small portion of my overall business portfolio, its more of a labor of love. I don't hold a crystal ball and have no idea what the future holds, but right now I can say we are both in it for the long haul, as it's been 7 years already.

The customer service I've gotten from D6 has been second only to Shearwater. And that's a very high bar!

PM me... and let me know what would make it #1. lol

SUUNTO was also acquired. And Twitter too. Uh, wait a sec on that one.

I never said "the only", I was just stating that HOG doesn't make it as easy as D6. Stating a company supports users to rebuild, but doesn't make their manuals publicly available doesn't seem like the best support.

I bet if you called HOG 1/2 way through a rebuild you would get way less support (if any) than if you called D6.

I would call that support, where as HOG sells parts.

Okie dokie..

im having problems with customer service, im looking at buying a SM reg setup from them but i dont wanna pull the trigger just to turn around and not have any customer service to support there products when i need them serviced. im saying this due to iv eamiled them few times about hoses, and if they offer mil discount and no response, i sent them a FB message and got a response of next week and yea we can send you a code and that was it never got the code nothing, makes me just wanna go HOG route least then i know i can send them to dris and get them serviced
So would you clarify on where Deep 6 dropped the ball?

Now I'll be straightforward that I'm very biased here. While I am not a part owner nor have any financial interest in Deep 6 other than for my own selfish gains for their support of a niche market like my own (small dive center that won't be selling gear to customers typically). I'm just chiming in again as regulator preference can be a really religious wars. Deep 6 takes quite a bit of unfair abuse from a number of disingenuous people who participate regularly on ScubaBoard. Posts where it turns out the person, not Deep 6, dropped the ball is often used as ammunition by these folks

My goal/intent/agenda here is to simply to assist Deep 6 in how I can so they can continue to provide me the parts/training/equipment of their high quality equipment that is moderately priced. If you take @rsingler's regulator service seminar (he's fair in my opinion) you'll see that the Deep 6 reg has a solid design that is straight forward to service yourself if you so wish. As you are in the US, you can always ship to Deep 6 for service if you don't wish to do this yourself, but there are also other shops. In my area, there is Tacoma Scuba. I'd imagine there are a number of others. I typically recommend mailing regs for service, as that is one trip to the Post Office and the regs wind up on your door later, saving you one trip.

Plus Chris and Landon are friends, and they are two of the most ethical people in the industry that generally is lacking in that department. They make strong efforts to provide a quality product, quality customer service to ensure their customers enjoy their product for many years.
