I’ve read it all and still need opinions on computers

There is still a huge amount of manufacturing in the US. It’s largely at the high end, and technical. China supplies many components for US high tech manufacturing, even if almost all the value is added in the US. I don't think you are going to be able to buy any electronic products that are free from Chinese components. That's the big argument against tariffs- they disadvantage US manufacturers against other countries that don't have to pay an extra tax on their components.

As long as the manufacturer is NOT chinese i.e. no chinese brand.
There is a big difference.
When the cost of the labour is getting too high, the manufacturer will look at other countries to exploit!

Quick insert without getting too political. In another discussion someone pointed out that the Chinese can build to whatever spec. you want. American companies often turn to China for cheap goods, and since that's what's asked for, that's what's produced. But then we've got the Apple iPhone. Apple uses Chinese sources at least in part because that's where they can get the manufacturing expertise they need. And yes, it's still cheap labor, but the bottom line is, 'Made in China' does not automatically equal 'Poor Quality.'

If someone doesn't want to buy products manufacturing in China for some political reason, or similar, okay. Of course, I imagine a lot of the parts used are made in China whether it's assembled in the U.S. or not.

Exactly China will produce to desired specs. If you give them high standards you get quality stuff. If you say make something this size as cheap as possible you get junk just like anywhere else. So much stuff is made there because labor is so much cheaper.

With that I prefer made in USA because I think our economy really needs the boost.

OP a lot are not trying to steer you towards the larger computers to be mean or anything like that. The most important feature of a dive computer is that it can be read. One of the locations listed is a low VIS condition place. I don't recommend anyone in my area get the small computers because they are hard to read at depth.

I also believe it is cheaper to save and buy once rather than buy this realize it doesn't work sell it at a huge loss and have to buy the more expensive one.

I agree with this.

made in the USA has a limit. anybody buying a dodge or chrysler car should get their head examined.

I used to have a Toyota camery and a Chevy Silverado.

Tire lugs, nuts, etc on the Toyota was American measurement system, the Chevy was all metric hmmm

PDC too big during your SI? Just wear it on your ankle, and claim you slipped house arrest....

But seriously, I don't personally value a watch sized dive computer for the diving I do. Dark waters of the Great Lakes, and my aged eyes just don't work happily with small form factor dive computers. I have picked computers for my eyes. Ease of use is also iimportant with big/thick gloves for cold water. They may be more than I will need (though I am Tech trained), but they work for me.

YMMV

To all the divers that are using large dive computers ( Perdix, peregrine ect...) when you are on vacation and you are done with your morning dives, do you take it off and keep it in your hotel room? A big part of my wanting a wrist watch sized computer is so I will want to and can comfortably leave it on for the duration of my vacation. I am scared of taking it off and losing it. I have stayed in a few hotels and or condos that don’t offer a safe.

If I can’t drive to a location, I don’t dive. I dive around the Great Lakes. So it would usually be a morning charter and then back to the motel/hotel. Most of my away from home diving has been in small towns. My gear except tanks/weights pretty much all goes back to my room to get dried out. So my computers are in my room, in a gear bag.

In my recent out of the area travels, I have either (1) left it with operator in a safe/secure location (their lock-box or storage), (2) brought it back to my accomodations and secured in some manner, (3) put it in a pocket/bag to carry with me during land based activities (cargo pants!), (4) secured in a vehicle.

All have been without problem....

If you are used to carrying something the size of a cell phone, it is much the same...

YMMV
