I find that hard to believe and suspect the comparisons vary with user talents. Matix does not check SWA tho so there is one more tab to open.
I checked NYC to ZAG on both. Matrix was $215 higher. Oct time frame.

Did you try booking the flights on the airline quoted to confirm? Not knowing the dates and details of how you searched, I cannot duplicate the searches. I did try Oct 1-8 on those sites for those cities and the cheapest fares are $690 on SS and $745 on Matrix, but when I tried to confirm on Aeroflot, I got confused.

Tough flying to Moscow when you want to go to Zagreb:)....I flew Aeroflot a few years back to Moscow on a Boeing 777...I wouldn’t care much to be on an Llyusin!

That's the cheapest flights on both sites for the dates I used, thru Moscow. SS did recommend Better flights for more. Again, I cannot duplicate your study without details, but even then I get bogged down trying to confirm on foreign carriers. It was an unusual example.

I doubt that there is a significant commission to plane tickets anymore. I think the only real income of travel agents nowadays is in packages, probably the overpriced ones.

That doesn't mean there isn't value there. You'd just have to monetize it another way than getting vendors to pay commissions. For some, it might be worth a reasonable fee to let you do all the searching, using your rep that you'll find a better deal than they would. For others, maybe they bring you a plan with parameters where you beat that plan and if they book your plan you split the savings.

I think I'll stick to the good deeds hobby without demands and complaints.

Now that this thread is up to 600+ entries there's no way I can keep up with what has or has not been mentioned lately - checked the last couple of pages though. I saw this today on the MX.Us Embassy website - wondering how it is effecting what is happening in Cozumel currently.

  • Eighteen states are designated “red” under the federal stoplight system between July 27 and August 2 (Baja California Sur, Coahuila, Colima, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Oaxaca, Guanajuato, Nayarit, Nuevo León, Puebla, Querétaro, Quintana Roo, San Luis Potosí, Tabasco, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Yucatán, and Zacatecas). Under red, only essential activities are allowed. Essential activities include: the provision of medical services and supplies, grocery delivery services, operation of grocery stores, restaurant delivery and carryout services, assurance of public safety, maintenance of fundamental economic functions and government social programs, work in critical infrastructure, construction, and manufacturing of transportation equipment. Hotels are limited to 25% occupancy for guests working on critical activities. Parks are also limited to 25% occupancy.

There is much confusion between Federal and State stuff here but I think it's similar to the US, the States have certain rights.

Back in I believe May when this whole color coding and possible opening in June was first coming out - the Federal president said that while the Feds may say one thing, State governments can do as they please. The State of Q Roo decided that tourism was an essential activity so they came up with their own system and even though the Feds says it's red, they state says it's orange at least in the north and so we forge ahead.

An interesting twist that came out yesterday - there's a federal health guy that gives country wide updates daily, it's all in spanish so I can't understand it but you can see his charts. Yesterday, there was a comment that something to the effect of possible charges or federal intervention in Yucatan because they weren't following federal guidelines - who knows with translations, posturing or what that is all about.

It seems like States, local governors and even port captains have their own ways of dealing with things, for instance, Cozumel has had a curfew while Playa and Cancun have not. Q Roo has never limited booze sales but Yucatan was dry awhile ago, opened up sales and just went dry again - there has been many many deaths related to bathtub hooch or hand sanitizer and coke in Yucatan...... Per Q Roo state regulations, we are supposed to be at 30% boat capacity for diving but the port captain says it's 50%.....

Go with the flow and follow what the other guy is doing seems to be the way it is....

Good to hear. On the same page it says they 'recommend' quarantining for 14 days after returning for Mexico - to required - and if it becomes a requirement I'm extremely fortunate I can still work from home. Looks like we're still on for August! Thanks so much for the 'on the ground' reporting!

You forgot to add that official policy is per the various individual official's Facebook pages.
