When our daughter was is in school, we always dove the last week of August. I don't recall Coz being any worse off than December month except for a bit more humidity....but the water was always a relief.

Ditto for Costa Rica, Bonaire, Roatan and the Caymans....go and enjoy!

August is their rainy season. You might get lots of rain. We like to go to the area during end of August/early September. The first time the weather was great! The second time, we were hit with torrential rain on several days. I don't think rain closes the ports for diving.

I would still choose to go during this time as we don't mind the heat/humidity. The heat/humidity the last time we went in September was not much different than when we went this past December. And we like the low season crowds and hotel prices. Weather will be weather - you can't predict it.

Just to make sure I understand: when you say "rained out," you're not saying cancelled dives, correct?

Correct. It did not cancel our dives when we were there and I don't think rain cancels dives generally, unless it is also windy, but someone else needs to confirm that.

When I say "rained out", I was referring to very heavy rains that rained us out for shore activities.

Let me remove that phrase so it's clearer.

Rain does not cancel dives.

It could be perfectly sunny in town and rainy out on the reefs or vice versa. A squall can also come out of nowhere and last for 30 minutes or so and then be done.

Rain or even thunderstorms in the "forecast" are nothing to get worried about.

Aint that the truth! No joke, we even decided to do our surface interval NOT at Playa Palancar because we could see it was raining over there and was not where we were just ¼ mile away :D

We went to Costa Rica in August and it was quite humid and I wish that I'd brought a hand towel with me to keep my face dry :rain:

We prefer to go to Cozumel in December because the weather is always so nice :rofl3:

I think I'll start buying Trip Insurance :surrender:

I like Cozumel in August. We went for my birthday for many years. Its hot, the water is warm and most days the sea is flat. I would no hesitate to go!
