Is there any reason not to go in August? How insufferable is the humidity?

Just to make sure I understand: when you say "rained out," you're not saying cancelled dives, correct?August is their rainy season. You might get rained out. We like to go to the area during end of August/early September. The first time the weather was great! The second time, we were hit with torrential rain on several days. I don't think rain closes the ports for diving.
I would still choose to go during this time as we don't mind the heat/humidity. The heat/humidity the last time we went in September was not much different than when we went this past December. And we like the low season crowds and hotel prices. Weather will be weather - you can't predict it.

It could be perfectly sunny in town and rainy out on the reefs or vice versa. A squall can also come out of nowhere and last for 30 minutes or so and then be done.
