I cancelled my backorder and bought another Shearwater to use as a backup. Just not worth the wait.

So if I buy one while I'm living in Europe, your company won't stand behind it after I move back to North America?
I've been looking at these for a while and with the dropping Euro it's looking better and better, but that's still a lot of cash to shell out if the manufacturer won't back the computer.

Your case or at least what you try to describe is nothing new to us after distributing few years for couple European manufacturers, its a very isolated case and we have our ways to
make it work if the story is true but in general mentioned before rule apply.

Will someone please translate this to English?

That might be the best non-answer I've heard this week and I get a lot of that in what I do. You should have gone into politics instead of dive gear. I'll try again. I am Canadian. I live in Europe. When my contract is done here, I will be moving back to Canada. Still with me so far? (Yes, this is in fact a true story.)
The price of the X-Deep Black (nitrox) here comes to about $450 USD (€ 425) with this morning's exchange rate. The USA price is about $630 USD. I'm sure you can see why this interests me.
But a "hey, don't worry, we'll take care of you, wink wink", doesn't really instill me with a lot of confidence. First you say it is nothing new, indicating that you see it all the time, then in the same sentence you call it a very isolated case. Which is it?
Basically what you've told me is, no, you won't stand behind the product. Except sometimes. Maybe. If you feel like it.

I'm not here to tell anyone how to run a business, but when a potential customer lays out their problem for you to solve, the first approach shouldn't generally be to indicate that you don't believe them. It's hard enough to break into a market dominated by companies like Mares, Scubapro, Apeks, and others without initially giving customers the idea that your customer service sucks. If and when I do have a problem with my computer, will you believe me or will you tell me it's my fault and tell me to pound sand? Right now I'm inclined to believe the latter.

Kanadian_Kash, I think you should ask the owner of xDeep, Piotr, and I would be surprised if he did not honour your warranty. Piotr provides excellent customer service, and he is very prompt too. He monitors and responds on the xDeep page on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/XDEEPBT/ or you can message or email him.

Thanks Ayisha, my mistake, I assumed the guy that started the thread spoke for the company, it appears he's just another vendor trying to protect his market from competition. I should have been more careful. I will contact Piotr.

They seem to be the US distributor for several European gear suppliers. They sell a bunch of Yellow Diving stuff. And not at a small markup either. I bought a scooter camera mount shipped direct from the manufacturer in Poland for $100 cheaper than TecDiveGear is selling it for.

The price I found is from one of the X Deep distributors listed on their website.
Now here's the interesting part: if I buy it and have the retailer fill out the VAT exemption form properly, I can get a refund on the tax, in this case, 21% (€75!!). This brings the price of the nitrox model down to about €350 or $378 USD.
The downside is that I can't use the computer here, it needs to be sealed when I leave the EU. I'll need to look into the regulations a little more to confirm this.
I realize this perk has nothing to do with the North American retailers, but it is definitely something that should be looked into. If a European retailer can charge €350 (before tax) and stay in business, what's going on in America? Is X Deep charging the NA distributors way too much or are the NA distributors charging the customers way too much?

What do you mean 'sealed'?
