For the colder waters I would suggest a diaphragm or sealed piston. Call Phil and tell him what you are wanting to dive.

Sorry if this is a little off topic (not that this thread hasn't gotten there anyway). Look at how this thread has grown....:cool2: Most of it driven by an excited & very enthusiastic teenager, hungry for knowledge in a brand new sport to him. It is such a refreshing thing to see.:blinking: Keep up the good work Mitch! We're all rooting for you!:cheerleader:

Thanks for the info john. Anyways, today went fine in class as well. My instructor was much better today, he helped me with the BC alot. Anyway... we went down to 10 feet today, AMAZING! I wigged out on the regulator drills cause my mask popped off at the same time when i was doing the drill, so it was alittle weird, but i calmed down and the did the drill correctly. Other than that, I got weighted better and stayed neutrally buoyant for alittle bit, that was tight, so it was purty sweet today.

THAT'S is why we all suggested that you not rush through the exercises yesterday, Mitch. Glad you got everything under control. Remember, the closest air source is on your back, not the surface; Air is time, time is air. Now you see what I was talking about when I said that the exercises are to show you you how you can survive while under water. Keep up the good work, dude. You can do it!

Yeah, ok, i went alot slower today, and I understand everything... ugh, my back hurts because of the weight i think, always had a little back probs, but not like this.

These guys have given you some great advise but I'm going to chime in with my 2c as well. With SCUBA slow really is the name of the game. Water obviously is much more denser than air so when you do everything slow and deliberate you are moving with the water and not against it. Trying to do anything fast underwater just wastes energy. Think of doing everything in slow motion. There is no better feeling in the world than being totally relaxed just hovering neutrally buoyant in the water. You won't get there overnight but if you keep thinking slow, deliberate, and relaxed movements you will get there.

Looking forward to meeting you. Tammy is right, we're all rooting for you. Enthusiasm is contagious!

Did I mention to go slow? :D

WOOTTT!!, good job Mitchell.
I agree with what John said go slow. Dive with me and you will know what he means. Even "i'm slow" Tammy :) lost me at Pennyroyal the last time we dove.
You also get to see the small things that most don't get to see because they zoomed by it.
I remember by Aruba dives. There was a buddy team of teen age boys..sorry.. they would zoom to a spot and stop and repeat. When we got back on the boat everyone started talking about what they saw. They didn't see half of the stuff that we did, because they speed from one place to another.

I did??? I don't remember (I was probably Narc'd:shakehead:). Maybe I should look into normoxic trimix when I dive deep there. I remember I got a little ahead of you & went back when I saw where you were. But then, It's dark & cold down there. I will admit, right now losing a buddy at Pennyroyal in the shallows wouldn't be hard. With all the rain lately vis has gone to about 5- 10ft right now. It was a chore just keeping up with 4 students in that vis last weekend. We mostly did "line navigation":D to the attractions. At least they were good about keeping together.

Ok, well i am super excited and I am planning a diving trip to FRP the weekend of the 30th, my dad had some sinus and other issues so he backed out of everything... If anybody else is up for it, the cookout and treasure hunt is the 30th of august at FRP (prizes too) u have to preregister for the treasure hunt...(423-7055) bring your own drinks and chairs. 12 noon to 5pm.
