Put it in your mouth. It'll be the one with bubbles coming out of it.

Color fades with depth. It's not a good way to identify gear underwater.

You can use a standard yellow hose.
Or if you already have a hose which is black. There is hose TAPE BRAID in yellow. It is made of plastic stuff very simple to install. Added bonus if you can, a hose protector in yellow...in the even an OOA comes from behind, makes it easier to spot in a pinch.

Plus the added YELLOW second stage cover for OCTO'S.

PS..SOGGY..that is the DIR way...;)

Just purchase a yellow hose, they are inexpensive.

Caution, unlike 95% of scuba training, past and present, most people on this board apparently donate their PRIMARY and switch to their secondary, what you call your octapus. I gather your not set up this way? The reason I ask is if you purchase a yellow hose then it should be on the regulator you intend to donate--whichever one that is going to be per your training and methods.

Yellow is visible at great depth and certainly contrasts against the black, however, a hose is not a hugely visible thing underwater and neither are the brightly colored octa second stages but most people seem to be able to see them well enough.

You can have my green/yellow standard hose for free. Pay postage and it's yours.

Seriously, non-rubber hoses tend to have a lot of inherent memory and typically most folks and agencies promote passing the primary vs. passing the secondary.

A nice 5 foot hose works great!!!

To explain in brief the reason you would pass your primary to an OOA.

You gurantee a working air source. The OOA may not have the time to fiddle with a free flow or an obstruction in an emergency, hense OOA. It just makes it that much more reliable in the event of an OOA. Where a diver can panic.

So what your saying is that if i have an air 2 ,maybe i should just forget the octo and practice using air 2, because someone in trouble will always go for the primary.
So is it worth it to have octo or rely on air 2.
when i learned to dive in 1982 they taught us to use out of air sign and we practiced giving up our safe second, we practiced and practiced the techniqe.
but i suppose a poorly trained diver in trouble not staying close to his buddy would be apt to go for the primary on any visible diver he can get to.
so my problem is do i stick to my trainning or change because of risks involved.
I have air 2 should i keep safe second?
your thoughts please.

it really shouldn't be as much a matter of what they 'GO" for as what you "GIVE" them. You don't ever want to be in a position where an OOA diver takes control of your air source w/o your consent. If an OOA diver comes barreling towards you, maintain control and then hand them the chosen air source.

The air 2 is designed on the donate the primary concept. There are many people here who don't like the air 2 concept and insist on a primary and secondary conventional second stage, but I have been using an air 2 for 12 years as my sole backup.
