tridacna, while I agree they've screwed the proverbial pooch to a nearly irreperable point.....they're not competing WITH Samsung/Sony.....they're competing FOR Samsung/Sony equipment. I believe the story is that they had one brand of lithium batteries in their original models, but then found a better battery (same price, same size, higher capacity/performance) provided by Samsung. So they "upgraded" to the Samsung battery. However, the cells were apparently all the rage and they're being bumped behind big/rich customers that can pay an expedite fee. Since xDeep is a lowly computer manufacturer talking about maybe hundreds instead of guaranteed MILLIONS of units.....they can't get their hands on parts.

However, an apology would've gone a LONG way....and a company that already has good products out (Stealth 2.0) should be better than this. This is Kickstarter kinda crap.

So the issue now is that Samsung can't keep up with demand?

no, there saying chinese component makers keep bumping the dive mfgrs orders for BT compoenets because they rather sell all compoents to big tech cos like samsung. mayeb true, maybe not.

The new Shearwater "rec" mode looks really nice! It does not have the compass mode but X-Deep better get moving or they are just not going to find a market as others move in.

I'm going to take a look at the Shearwater at BTS this weekend. Personally I think that the Xdeep ship has sailed. Almost one year of serious lies and broken promises. Unbelievable.

I bet dollars to donuts that the Xdeep guys will be at BTS making new promises!

One of the features I noticed here is that it seems to be displaying dive time in seconds, which I would consider pretty useful in learning to control proper ascent speed. As far as I could tell from reading the Petrel manual, that used to not be available outside the gauge mode (it only had 15-second granularity), but perhaps I am wrong, I did not have a chance to play with it. I still do not understand why the gauge functionality in Petrel needs to be a separate "mode", and why the tissues need to be "cleared" while switching, that does not seem to make a ton of sense. My understanding is that X-Deep Black does not have this sort of a limitation.

So.....one TINY, MINUTE detail makes the Petrel an inferior computer? I know you're not saying it, but you're clearly implying it. This is hilarious, dude.

Not at all, I see it as a good sign that a healthy competition stimulates improvements in a competitor's product, to the benefit of the customers.

This is hilarious, dude.

Why the hostility?
