I was at the booth on Tuesday and was told that they were ALREADY shipping and that DRIS would have them in a "few" weeks. They are such nice people with a potential killer product but have NO idea how to market properly. Information was from Sebastian and the owner. (Forgot his name).

When you actually hold and use the device, it is a marvel of engineering. So light and simple to use. The display is crystal clear and amazingly easy to see. Pricing is very competitive but oh, do they stink at communications...

What did you think about those buttons? I've occasionally had issues with the Predator (and much more rarely the Petrel) buttons getting triggered by either the backup computer or my lighthead hitting them, and they're much more compact than what I see on this thing. Still, a small formfactor without having to go Liquivision would be nice.

It's nice to hear the the product looks so good from someone who has had their hands on it. Did they have the nitrox software on it yet so that you could run a simulation?

If they can get it together this looks like it will definitely be on my short list this coming summer.

They had all three versions there. I played with the Nitrox and the Trimix models in simulation mode. They are superb both in use and design. I really hope that they work as well in real life as they do in simulation. I brought another tech diver to the booth with me who was salivating for one.

It seems to me that this is so typical: Great engineers with an incredible product with absolutely no idea of how to sell it properly.

Here's how naive they are: We asked them about this thread and how it may damage their reputation. Their response? This is an obvious attempt by their competitors to besmirch them and their product! They are therefore not responding because that would play into the hands of these competitors...

The buttons require more push than a glancing blow to operate. You have to depress them quite firmly and be quite deliberate to activate. There is zero chance of an accidental press IMO. The form factor is exquisite. Small enough not to be a nuisance but the display is plenty large for even this "half blind diver" not to miss.

After seeing the computer and speaking extensively to them, (their enthusiasm and excitement is absurdly positive and infectious), I am going to wait this out until they're available. My advice is to buy from someone that could do battle for you with some buying volume clout if necessary.

When last I checked, their last SB log in was in September. It seems they are devotees to the Ostrich school of life, bury your head in the sand and pretend the danger will go away.

They could have just mentioned the initial batch did not meet their high quality standards so the introduction will be delayed and then offer a refund to those who put down deposits and tell them they will not lose their place in line. People would grumble but understand and at least they would have the reputation of honesty.

For the record, I have no ties to the scuba industry.

Thanks for that description. I am very much looking forward to trying one out next year when I am ready to upgrade.

Since their communication is not so great, I guess we will unwittingly become their helpers with word of mouth (assuming they can crank them out, of course).

This may help others get a feel for the device...

This video is all in Polish but I was able to better see its actual size and display. recommended views at 4:30, 11:10. For some fast speaking polish check out 10:30-10:55

On the xDEEP site note the Specification tab that explains a lot of things such as the 3 different screens and the running time ("Working time"), and has the PDF doc. which seems to be straight forward and more brief than others.

Thanks for this.

Based on the pdf document, I particularly like the timer and navigational features, compass operation at +/- 80 degrees deflection (really? from horizontal?), all events (like timer set/stop) showing in the logs and ascent/descent rates that can be specified by depth range. Just as a "bottom timer" there is a lot of desirable features. I hope the manufacturer gets the device and software reliable before flooding the market. I'll definitely try one of these on the instrument panel of my DPV.

So Mike, almost two months since your post above. How many have you shipped so far? Just curious...

actually, its been almost one month, but I'm curious too :)

ZERO....don't have them yet. As of DEMA, they said hopefully within a couple weeks as the just moved to a bigger facility to ramp up production. Seems the initial response to the computer, was much bigger than anticipated.
