Anyone out there using the Petrel 3 fisher as their primary OC computer? Salt & freshwater?

Thanks in advance for shared experience.

Wasn’t aware anyone was still buying new Fischer computers given availability of better options.

I would avoid it if possible. In a pinch, make sure you floor the compartment with some mineral oil and maybe even tape the cap down.

I do sometimes use my Petrel Fischer computers on during open circuit diving with the cap on. There is no reason to doubt it. Since you are expressing concern maybe inspect the oring carefully before using it. But it will be fine.

Thank you Grant, fischer on my Kiss classic drives the consideration.

Thank you Dave, I appreciate your perspective.

I haven't dove a shearwater with a Fischer, but my original VR3 had one. I only used that as a standalone. As many issues as that computer had, a leaking Fischer cap wasn't one of them.

Yeah, they are, some people prefer the Fischer.
I have friends who use 2 Fischer Petrels, one connected to CCR, the other a back up, gives the option to freely swap between primary and back up if there’s a problem with primary and also allows ability to dive 2 OC computers on OC dives.

I’m not one of those however, in fact I’m gonna work on selling my Fathom which has a Fischer Petrel to trade for another Fathom with a direct cable connection, I have short arms.

I have a Petrel 2 with a Fischer connector capped off. I have a few hundred dives on it with never a problem.

A Petrel 2 monitor with a Fischer connector is a good backup. Use it as a standalone with the cap like pointed out in this thread or use it as a backup cell monitor even if you have a 4-PIN connection. You can get a Fischer-to-4-PIN adapter from Narked at 90 or Martin from Tecme.

I have a Petrel 2 with a Fischer connector plugged off. I have a few hundred dives on it with never a problem.

With CCR and with no CCR and with no tape and with no wire and with no oil

Sometimes finding a plug or cap where I put them is a real problem
