I already mailed him some black hightops and an autographed picture of David Koresh..

...neither Shane nor I can swim our double 104s full of EAN32 to the surface with wing deflated and a good squeeze on the suit.

Best I could get was about 10 feet off the bottom finning like mad.

(We wear no weight belts or other ditchable weight with our drysuits and double 104s)

Sobering as our little test was... it is balanced against the knowledge that my wing AND my suit AND Shane's wing AND Shane's suit would not only have to fail... but we would also need have to both our bags fail AND be at the beginning of our dive with full tanks for it to be a problem.

However... with low backgas using trimix at the end of a dive it is somewhat comforting to know that we can maintain a deco stop without popping to the surface.

BTW.... for those who need this kind of assurance... Andrew G. dives double steels with a drysuit in the ocean as do most other DIR divers he has trained here in the PNW.

The line in sand is located. When G adopts me, pays all my equipment and diving costs, and supplies me with same, he can tell me what to dive and where. Until that takes place, I read the info, use my head, and make up my own mind.
Besides, I don't live in Florida :)

All I wanted was a lousy lollipop WW. But, nnoooooo, now you're trying to get by with colored water. Sad, too sad.

If you knew George you would seek out his approval :) If you would just drink the damn Kool Aid you would also!

btw- I agree with you on this one, that's one flavor of Kool Aid (of of very few) that I'm not partial to either. I won't dive with George with steel tanks in a wetsuit though!

Sorry o-ring, that's exactly the point.

So because George had an opinion on it, it automatically gets dismissed because George is who he is...IMHO, that's not the most intelligent position, but you do whatever you want.

Is this situation THAT unlikely.

Jumping off the boat without turning your gas on. No wing inflation, no drysuit inflation, no buddy (he'll be way above you), full tanks.

I'm sure everyone knows that you have to miss a few checks to jump in without gas on but it certainly does happen

I'm sure an old hand like UP would not only never get into this situation but would also be comfortable turning the gas on if he did. What about us mere mortals?

...for dives in the 130-200' range that you can't get thirds with rock bottom backed out in AL80 doubles? Are you slinging more 80s or diving large steels?

But if one jumps in with his gas off it won't matter if he's wet or dry, will it? In that case you best be a valve reaching sucker if you're in double 104s!
