As long as you don't see any posts that contradict your beliefs, that means everyone agrees with you, right?
It's not a question of that. There is nothing to stop you making critical posts about hunting in other forums if that is your view and you want to express it. The purpose of this forum though is for people who do hunt, or are considering it, to talk about it without having to argue the rights or wrongs of it. It's a given that people who post in this forum DO agree with it or they shouldn't be posting in here. The rest of the board is a different matter though.

My thought on the hormone question is that the feelings I experience hunting are very likely the infulence of hormones. I don't let my hormones control me, but they definitely influence me. It's meant to be that way. If the hormonal influence on our actions was removed we would cease to be human. I expect we would be a confused and frustrated race for exactly one generation followed by extinction. he he.

I was visiting the Point Defiance Zoo once with my wife and kids. I hadn't eaten in about 6 hours (don't worry - they had). As we aproached the big round marine tank I looked up and saw a school of choho right up by the glass. At that instant I felt a surge of adrenaline and had to shake off the thought that had gripped my mind in an instant - "catch that fish and eat it!". I almost laughed out loud. The logical consious side of my mind said "That's ludicrous" but there was something else in me telling me that fish was my next meal. Hurry before it gets away!!!!" It was one of the most interesting internal conflicts I've experienced, and the first time I ever saw a living creature and actually thought "I want to eat that". Our biology is wonderful and amazing. In previous generations I'm sure that instinct that momentarily gripped me was responsible for insuring human survival - it was there to make sure that everybody didn't stand around with their hands in their pockets while dinner ran off.

Now I'm hungry for salmon. (sigh)

Have a nice day.

You're right, it wasn't you. It was somebody else, who hated hunters, especially trophy hunters.

The "Thread-Hunters" were so quick on the draw, I might be one of the few to have seen it.

The scuba vs. freedive spearfishing issue has been flogged every which way from Sunday. Nobody wins the arguments, and it just divides the sport.

I think it should be added to the rules, that any legal method of spearfishing should not be a target. In other words no scuba vs freedive or vice versa.

JMHO

Just to set the record straight,
I am not a "hunter-hater", I just don't approve of spearing on scuba. It's great that moderators make sure no one strays from the guidelines and I guess I got carried away. So now you all can delete this post and go back to playing nicely. As long as you don't see any posts that contradict your beliefs, that means everyone agrees with you, right?
Have a nice day.
Your thread against hunting on scuba is alive and well. See it here.
This forum is not here for that argument.

That is an excellent suggestion!! The constant banter back and forth which are then further fueled by regional traditions, and then produces the same results as debating different religions around the world.

Take those posts to the whine and cheeze forum. Keep this forum as it was intended.

I just checked Rick, that one's closed too. These arguments do get redundant to say the least and maybe it's not good for the sport, as it does cause a division. But if PETA or any other organization tried to close all spear fishing, I believe it would unite us all.
But regarding closing threads arguing about scuba vs free, in the TOS it says you can't argue against spearfishing, that it's "about how to do it". It's old, like DIR vs non DIR, but it is about "how to do it". If you're going to close these threads for this, then why do you tolerate the DIR arguments?

It is an interesting sociological question.

I believe much of the reason relates directly to how and where we were raised. Folks raised in rural areas tend to hunt more out of necessity, availability, heritage, tradition, etc.

Folks raised in more urban areas typically don't have the necessity, availability is not as good, and any heritage or tradition that does/did exist tends to get watered down over time over lack of the former.

I think factors like these play a much greater role than hormonal flow. Lest we would have packs of dudes running around our bigger cities with clubs chasing dogs and cats for the "thrill of the kill."

I don't think living in a urban area automatically shuts off the testosterone spigot. ;)

Great day in the mornin' - sorry 'bout that. My bad... I moved those over to the new thread while I had this one closed and forgot to open it back up. Completely my oversight and not intended to cut anyone off.
It's open now - go for it.
