I used a Apeks TX-50 A US Divers Conshelf 20 and worked at a shop that sold Scuba Pro and used the 600, 550. None breath anywhere close to the Oceanic Delta 3. Just my opinion:)

Woah that's weird. I work at a shop that sells Scubapro and Oceanic as two of it's three main lines. The head tech (who has been working on regs for 30 years) says that if he ever finds a Oceanic that breathes as good as a Scubapro he will be shocked. On the other hand he says that but his reg of choice is the Oceanic Zeta. Go figure

Maintenance is definately part of the equation and Sherwood is by far the easiest to maintain and service.

I have dove with my Sherwood to all levels and found it to extremely durable and dependable.

Two friends of mine had their brand NEW Apex crap out on them and they had to borrow my spare Sherwood while on vacation.

However I do like my Aqualung too ;)

I use mk25(old one) with s550 and mk16 with r190. They are both great regs. I tryed few Poseidons, but you cant compere them with SP. As for lack of thermal protection I dove in water 1 *C without any problem.

Has anybody gone deep with both the MK25/16 and the aqualung legend? I haven't done any deep diving yet, but i hope to grow into it over the next several years and I'd like to be able to keep the same reg. What are your opinions?

I use a Mk 25 D400 to 150' on a regular basis and in my opinion it is a great breathing reg at depth with no difference from how it breathes at 10'. The MK 25 will pass more gas than any diver could use at sane depths so I would highly recommend using one for deep diving.

As for lack of thermal protection I dove in water 1 *C without any problem.

I have dove both a MK 20 and/or a Mk 25 for the the last few years and have never had a problem with the first stage freezing up and free flowing. The water temp on my average deep dive is in the mid 40's and in the winter the temps goes as low as 35 degrees.

That said, I have dove with experienced divers during that period who have had problems and I have seen several evolutionary changes to the first stage around the ambient pressure chamber to both increase the water flow to the ambient pressure chamber and to increase the external surface area. Both of these measures are intended to increase heat transfer from the water to the reg and address the freeze up problems some people have.

And based on the experience of my dive buddy / freind / experienced diver / instructor / dive shop owner / Scubapro dealer yesterday who froze up twice in 40 to 50 degree water with a new Mk 25 S600 with the latest design changes, I'd have to say the problem is not quite solved yet. He will be talking to the Scubapro rep about it this week to see what they are doing to address the issue.

So in short, I have never had a problem but other people have and an individual diver's results may very. Despite my liking the regulator, it is an issue that I feel obligated to bring up.

These polls are getting a bit tiresome! We continue to do the same old regulator questions. The worst part is that some of the best requlators are left out of the poll.

Most divers like the regulator, that they dive with and will support it in these polls.

Actually a lot of factors need to be considered in choosing a regulator set-up. Type of diving, waters temps, budget, service and parts availability and yes the reputation and history of the company that makes them.

I dive an Atomic M-1 with an Atomic Z-1 'Octo'. Before this (until it was stolen) I used an Atomic B-1 with an Aqualung Titan 'Octo'. I found both set-ups to be reliable and easy breathing at any depth that I have been at. (130+) I would stick with the Atomic products as long as they breath the way they do and are as trouble free as mine have been. :)

i dive mares V32 with proton xl ... i'd be stooopid to vote for anything else, wouldn't i?
