only if you are a tech diver from what I have read :idk::confused:..

It really is quite simple. I got the Apeks/Aqualung service technician course from the Norwegian Apeks/Aqualung agent, and it was all done in a couple of hours. As long as you know what you're doing, and do it every now and then, I see no problems with servicing you own regs. If you're unsure, let a professional do it.

By the way, it's customary, at least here, to get all the replaced parts after service. That way, you can be fairly sure that they've actually replaced all the wear and tear parts.

Edit: As I support my local dive center, I don't service other people's regs. That effectively leaves me with only my own regs to service, so I let the dive center do it for me. I feel better leaving it to someone who does it every day, rather than myself once a year.

Not true....lot's of folks know how to and often do service their own regs.
You don't have to be a tech diver.
I'd love to learn to service my own regs.
If something happened to me becasue I didn't do a thorough enough job, it would be on me.
Much better than putting your life in someone elses hands, having them service your regs.

What were you impressed by? Looks like rebranded Apeks TX50/DST to me. Which regs do you use?

Personally, I didn't like the TX50/DST as much as the XTX200 I'm currently using. The TX50 is conciderably bigger and heavier than regs in the new XTX series, but was chosen over the ATX series by many because of their wide exhaust thingies (wide exhaust is incorporated in XTX). Had a few problems with leaks in the svivel on the DST, and hose routing felt like a mess compared to that of DS4, FST and FSR.

Sooooooo, are they (HOG regs) actually (operationally) the same as Apeks TX50/DST's with a different logo on them?
I know there are tons of regs made in Thailand or Viet Nam at the same factory, to the same specs. (check out how many ScubaPro MkV clones are on the market under various manufacturer badges)
They just throw on plastic that's shaped a little different, label it something different and call it a day.

It sure would be helpful to know when it comes time to service them.

Pretty sure they are. Good regs, and easy to get serviced, but "Highly Optimized Gear"? I don't know... If all that separates it from Apeks TX50 is cosmetical changes, then no.

Before anyone decides to bash me.....YES, I'm well aware that ATX50's are second stage and SP MkV's are first stage.

Just making a point about clones in general.

I take it you're not a fan of Apeks TX 50's?

And all I was inquiring about was being able to find parts to service my regs

I dive XTX 100s on my doubles, as well as some expedition diving because they are very robust, and I have an XTX 50 Octo second stage that I keep around as a back-up spare.

The HOG regs don't look like clones of the XTX 50 to me, although I have never done a side-by-side. If anything, they look more like the Diverite 3000s in design (not cosmetically).

The HOG regs appear robust and their build seems very solid, especially the second stages. For me, that is always the problem --most first stage regulators I've used are pretty indestructible, especially the DIN versions. Second stages are what I tend to break and the HOG regs look like they can withstand a lot.

As Thass. said, they are also self-servicible, which is a huge plus as far as I am concerned. A busted reg. on an expedition isn't much of a problem if you can carry a rebuilt kit or two with you.

The price on these regs is fantastic as far as I can see.

Again, I have not used HOG regs myself, and my comments are based on seeing them both in the water and at the Edge/HOG booth at DEMA.

When I am looking for new regs, HOG will be on my list.

As I said in an above post, I didn't like it compared to ATX and especially XTX series. DST is great for stages, but I didn't like it as a single tank regulator.

If the HOG truly is a TX50 with makeup, service should be easy. Apeks has one service kit for all their first stages, and one for all their second stages. :)
