Tim, HOG is a line of gear that is more or less directed towards the tech crowd but it more than suitable for recreational divers. THey also have some equipment directed towards the recreational diver that is marketed under the EDGE brand. Go to Dive Rght In Scuba's website. They are running a black friday sale that starts at 6ish tonite. I talked to Mike yesterday and he is looking at going live with the sale a little early. I'm definitely getting two of the coldwater setups. Now they DO NOT come with hoses. Tech divers have different hose length needs and HOG lets us decide what length is best. The Pres of HOG/EDGE is also a recent friend of mine and I trust him and his gear.

HOG stands for HIGHLY OPTIMIZED GEAR, and like said is the tech/minimalist brand of EDGE. EDGE branded gear is standard recreational gear.

Either brand my philosophy is HIGH Quality and HIGH Value.

The regs are made in Taiwan by a large OEM(I actually use a couple different depending on product), however instead of "off the shelf" with a quick logo change I spent over a year changing items, material and specifications, buying molds (dealing with bad molds :shakehead: ) and making sure I had what I wanted for the brand. Certainly any tech worth his/her salt will see what I've done and hopefully will approve.

Thanks, I'll check it out. Had to buy a new furnace this week though, so no presents for me for a while :(

I don't dive HOG regs myself and I am absolutely delighted with my APEKS and Aqualung regs, but a buddy of mine dives HOG regs and I've had a chance to inspect them and I am frankly impressed.

If I were in the market for new regulators, HOG regs would be very high on my list of considerations.

Jeff

can you get rebuild kits for these???
Not just parts ... factory training on the regs!

OK, next question.
Is this reg modelled after any currently marketed name brand reg?
I know there are alot of clones out there.
Sure would make getting them serviced much easier.

Servicing is the easiest thing ... you are encouraged and can be trained to DO IT YOURSELF!

Wasn't even looking around for regs but saw the offers on DRIS and this is seriously tempting.

What were you impressed by? Looks like rebranded Apeks TX50/DST to me. Which regs do you use?

Personally, I didn't like the TX50/DST as much as the XTX200 I'm currently using. The TX50 is conciderably bigger and heavier than regs in the new XTX series, but was chosen over the ATX series by many because of their wide exhaust thingies (wide exhaust is incorporated in XTX). Had a few problems with leaks in the svivel on the DST, and hose routing felt like a mess compared to that of DS4, FST and FSR.
