So my friend who works in a local dive shop (not to be named) was saying that he thought most people learned what they do about diving and dive products from instructors of course, like it was a no brainer. For me, it was more of a relationship with a mentor than with my actual instructor.

If you asked this question 10 years ago, I think if you said, "internet", people would think you were crazy.. right?

I was wondering what other people thought. If your answer isn't here, please share.

Edit: I should have written (obviously, people here on ScubaBoard would put scubaboard as a choice, but where else, IN ADDITION to ScubaBoard would you find this kind of information)

You listed Other Online Forum but not ScubaBoard?

I edited my question. Sorry for the confusion.

Tough to answer, but I chose Mentor/Friend.
It was tough to decide because most of those mentors and friends were also instructors (not all though!). My most valuable lessons from them, however, were outside a course environment. I learned lots from them in courses too, but the best learning was just going diving with them.

o While diving.

School of hard knocks?
Edit
This is a hard choice. I would like the answer to be a mentor, but mine is no longer here and I've yet to find someone to fill his fins. I ended up putting internet as that is where i get advice, information.

While I have taken classes from a number of instructors the most learning has occurred as the result of just getting in the water and diving. The rest is all theoretical until you actually can put it into practice.

I learn about diving from other dive expert specialists, experienced expert instructors, books, internet, etc. but diving is what brings the knowledge together. I also learn from my students and divers in the field when I watch what they do and how they do it.

I learn the most from diving. I generally dive by myself, I learn on every dive
