i think cold water diving is more challenging because you are dressed like the Michelin man and everything is harder to manipulate- it also tiring as your body works hard to keep warm - Once your hands get cold it becomes difficult to address any issues

Coldest /longest diver was just over 4 hours in 6 º ( 42-43) Fully heated suits are non negotiable where hypothermia is as bigger risk as DCS

Yesterday 3°C air, 4°C water on my Galileo Luna(my buddy had 1°C less each on this Shearwater).

41min max depth about 23m and average 12m.. with my semi dry suit. That was cold! Lookong forward to my dry suit. My sac right now is about 1.7 times it is in warm water conditons

I do not think the "poll" is legitimate, certainly not the "results".

The thread does not invite a cross-section of SB users. Because of the title "Cold water diving - we enjoy LOVE it!" it only draws in users with an oddly perverted, un-natural attitude towards cold water to start with. :poke:

The only reason I clicked was to see if it was like some 12-step recovery thing ...
Well, that’s interesting. When I started diving, there was no dive travel industry, and so we could only dive locally. That got a lot of us who wanted to see what was around us into the underwater world, in rivers, lakes and our estuaries in Oregon. We also made some trips up to Washington to dive in Puget Sound too. And, we had wonderful, if fairly cool, dives too.

Even with the advent of dive travel, most of my trips have been to cold water locales. I've made seven trips to Canada, and one to Seattle, and we're preparing for our third South Australia trip. We've also made several weekend trips to Monterey, Morro Bay, and San Diego. I even dived Lake Tahoe in a wetsuit in my younger, dumber days. There must be something wrong with me. :)
