Well for me a 10 no question at all. I made some really bad dive decisions a couple of weeks ago that could have cost me my life. All the time I spend reading the accident forum helped me to pull that one out. Shouldn't have been on the in the first place and things started going south in a hurry. I had just read a thread on SB 2 days before about another person that didn't make it out of a similar situation and it helped me to work through my buddies waving me off and leaving me after I signaled trouble and up at 106'. If you want to read about the incident it can read it at this link

I posted on that particular board because my dive buddies read that forum so they would have a chance to respond if they wanted to do so. No response.

Anyway for me a 10 for sure. I am so grateful to SB for all I have learned here. I might just owe my life to SB.

My rating is variable over time. When i first started it was a solid 9-10ish (!); i visited multiple times a day and read as much as i possibly could. I think we can generalize that for those just starting the board is invaluable.

Over time, however, you see the same basic discussions replicated; useful, but diminishingly so.

Now that i'm contemplating my long-term future in diving (will be posting a thread on this soon) and more advanced and cash-intensive choices, i will turn to SB once again for advice.

So, to summarize, i would say that SB is as valuable as you need it to be if you put in the effort to search for particular things and ask specific questions. For me, right now, that makes it an 8.

I just discovered this forum about 5 days ago and I am so grateful for all the information, advice and encouragement.
It is a great resource!

Thanks!!

For its value to the dive community it deserves a 10. Maybe more experienced divers don't need it as much, but then again, maybe they need to see things from a different perspective. The day you stop learning is the day you begin to die.

I gave it a 10.

I rate the site a 10. When I first logged on to SB, it provided a wealth of information to further my dive education. At that point in time, I recognized each person that had over 500 posts. SB has grown since then and I don't know all of the "players" but that is how SB has evolved. I have also evolved and changed the way SB helps me. Now I have to admit that SB helps to feed me and my family, 50% of my business comes from SB. Without SB I would be back in Canada working in the resource industry bringing in lots of money but not enjoying life as I am now. :)

I hope that my posts contribute to the SB community and I hope that by becoming a Supporting Member I help to payback what I receive from SB.

Thanks

Dennis

Given the amount of time I spend online, I have to give it a 9.

Ninja edit: I reserve a 10 for those things I really cannot do without.
Yeah, I don't give anything a 10. The directions were spelled out well, but maybe those low voters didn't read them?

Still, I have been thinking about an idea - not allowing any NEW members to post unless they join as paying members - perhaps at a lower rate than Supporting member. Over 20% voted 5 or less. Leave SB open to their reading, but not for their posting.

That would cause too much stagnation. The new members are what keep the forum afloat. Without them we'd miss he influx of new questions.

R..

Yeah, Don. If the new members couldn't post, then we wouldn't get to see so many of these messages:

Howdy from Texas and welcome to SB!
