We leave for Bonaire on Saturday and the dogs (GSD and LabX) are staying home! A friend is being paid to stop in a few times a day and to stay overnight a few times so they don't go crazy. We've left them for three night with a friend stopping in but never this long. I'm already worried!!

The kennel we used to use was ridiculously priced and didn't do a great job. We got a webcam "suite" for them once and therefore got to see how poorly they actually took care of the dogs.

Second the inlaws idea, plus I have co-worker who likes dogs and can come over for day trips or weekends.

But those of you who posted that your dogs can hold it for 18, 24 hours, even if it was an emergency...are you thinking straight?!! Try holding your "business" for that length of time and then post about it!:11:

We babysit for some of our friend's pups when they vacation, and then they return the favor.
When they take care of are animals, they have to move into our house while we are gone because we have 3 dogs, a cat, 2 guinea pigs and 5 horses. 2 of the dogs are on meds that need to be administered every 12 hours.
We usually take care of their pups 2 or 3 times for every 1 of our trips!

We have also done trips to the pacific northwest and put the camper on the back of the truck. The dogs get a big bowl of water and hang out in the camper while we dive.

Looks like a common problem.

My inlaws live 4000 miles away, so that might be a stretch. However they love our baby, so it might not.;)

We are new to the area we live in, so we don't know many people. I'm not the trusting type with neighbors we barely know.

Tonight we were given a name of another local kennel. One of the neighbors found them last week, and gave us the details. I guess we will try them.

Thanks a TON for all the suggestions. Now if the wife had her way he would be fitted with scuba gear and go with us.

I'm the same way. I don't even want a pet sitter service coming into my house.

Even though my in-laws usually watch my two dogs, we recently went on a trip with them so I had to board my dogs at a kennel. I felt bad for a while but I just kept telling myself that even though we treat them like little furry people (yes, I'm one of those people), they're just dogs.

I stay at La Quinta inns and they take pets at all of thier locations.
I think they will give you a late checkout on Sundays something like 2 pm if you ask.
If you stay with they often get the members rewards program.
You can get free nights and push for a 3 pm checkout

You'll be a 'happy camper' then if you ever have to overnight in La Ceiba, Honduras---there's one there.........In the old days(before lites on the runway), TACA put us up a couple of times there trying to get into to Roatan on the Houston Saturday flight when the weather did not cooperate...even have a "Casino" there...lol...bunch of one armed bandits is mainly what it is...funny thing is playing them with limperas---@ 10 to 15 to 1 exchange rate, you wind up playing the '1/2 penny slots'-forget the nickle slots.......

That's what in-laws are for; babysitting the dogs while you're out of town. :D

Or parents, brothers, etc.

We're training ours to guard the new boat while we're down below.

my dogs are trained to hold whatever business they have to do for a full day. I accidentally had to find that out one day when i got stranded. I got home nearly 24 hrs from when I left the dogs, and they didnt have 1 mess anywhere in the house.

Better for their health to teach them to jump in the tub if they really, really have to go.
