I would opt for the super safe, user battery replaceable, RGBM using Vytec. It's 400 bucks between the vytec and the cobra but it's nice to just look at your wrist to know everything that is important to you. I have the Cobra and it's plenty good.

Of course you would have to replace that Vytec strap with a bungee cord just to look pseudo DIR.

Why do all you vytec people insist on saying it has RGBM.. It doesn't! There are only 2 computers that have TRUE implememntation of RGBM the HS-explorer and the Abysmal explore (both are made by Hydrospace, you can also choose 1 of 7 adaptive buhlman models) Don't take my word for it take the inventor of RGBM Bruce W. he made an announcement just a few weeks ago..

The suunto uses some of the RGBM folding to reduce allowable times when multiday diving, multi dives per day and reductions when doing reverse profiles Thats it.. these limits are folded over a traditional buhlman/haldanean model.

If you want to prove it to yourself do 100ft for 18-20 minutes on air (this is longer than the NDL time allowed by RGBM(its 16 or 17 minutes I dont remember offhand), but within all tables that I can think of), under true RGBM your first deco stop will be around 80ft...

I guess their marketing ploy works then... and they aren't lieing either since they call it "Suunto RGBM". If you are interested about the full implementation of RGBM NauiTec tables are the full implemntation of RGBM, the AByss diveplanner has an RGBM mode that is RGBM with a bit more concervatism built in..

RGBM is a bubble model (more precisely a dual phase model --disolved and free gas)with buhlman like profiles for short shallow dives.. The "suunto rgbm" is a buhlman model with the RGBM limiting factors put ontop of it, but since its not bubble based your mandatory stops will be shallower and longer..

I have dove with a vytec a few times to testhow various profiles alter deco obligations.. in all cases the vytec had considerable more deco tnan the RGBM models predict and as you did RGBM deep stops the deco obligation on the Vytec was increasing.. if memory serves me at one point when I was cleared on my 30 ft stop, the vytec had more time left at that stop than my remaing time on the rest of my RGBM stops!

i think you'll agree that it is frustrating and time consuming for those of us that don't have a manufacturing plant spitting them out perfectly... what did you end up using for pins?

... where did you get the 27 ohm resistor...


Back from my trip

I drilled holes and pushed two small bolts through the case because I couldn't find the pins mentioned in the instructions. That means I have to hold it to the Cobra "just right" while it downloads, but it isn't a big deal so far. I might build a better connector in the future if it becomes a problem, otherwise it isn't worth the effort.

I found all my parts at a local shop called "The Electronic Connection". They had a huge display with every resistor value you could want. Well, execpt for the fact someone filled the 100K peg with 1000K (or some such) forcing me back to Radio Shack for the most common value.

I use a genesis react , nitrox computer in a console with SPG and compass. I clip it to a D-ring on left side of BC with enough slack where I can hold it in my left hand with my arms crossed across my chest
( basically under my right arm pit ) that way nothing in dangling below me. My octo is on my low-pressure inflator. So, I don't have extra hoses.

Although I must admit my primary info. comes from by dive watch - a citizen promaster - that I can download to my PC when I get home. I check remainin air and NDL at the 20 and 40 min. mark of the dive - depending on conditions these times may change , but generally these are the times I use.

The REACT is easy to use with large display. HOWEVER, it is pre-set at a pO2 of 1.6 . As I understand it there are some that you can program to 1.3 or 1.4 , etc..

Wrist-mounted computer for me.

I'll look at it more often that way :hehe:
 
Oceanic Data Plus, mounted in a console (removable for hook up to computer). A nice in expensive, user friendly Nitrox compatable computer. I tried it on my wrist, but I tend to stick my hands into holes that would scratch the face. (Maybe I shouldn't stick my hands into holes)
