I'm aware of the posting but at the time I posted my reply, there was only one. And although it is suspicious, I have no way to verify the dfh id is a sock puppet.

It was a good topic, so thanks for the thread, sharkbyte. Unfortunately, they're like a rash that won't go away - and I agree that to leave this thread which is certainly not what you intended and delete the other, is at best a bad decision and at worst fraught with shades of cronyism and dishonesty.
Let's see how many of the sock puppets are banished, as well as what changes will happen to insure disclosure if you work for (i.e. DM, or "divecon", instruct, account,sweep floor, or get any form of reimbursement, be it cash or barter) a dive shop and post anything, no matter how remotely, about it.
Steven Ash is affiliated with one- and we all know it. He mentions it quite often.
ScubaJCF just bought into one - and it was the subject of its own thread. His posts never are chest-thumping, I'm the greatest, and my dive store is greatest. No one else's employees do so as near as I can tell.
Never hear about ElMar, or any of the others. They're classier than that.
No one who's read these and didn't already form an opinion would set foot in that shop-and to that I say, we have something they want, and it's MONEY. Keep it, or give it to another shop, and you've helped in the biggest way possible.
I'm very disappointed- discussions and even arguments are what brings out viewpoints, and are healthy in most cases. Censorship is never the answer.
And the next argument will be "they're individuals, I can't control them" which of course we all know is nonsense.

I'm probably done with this board if there isn't penalties dished out and some semblance of change to correct some people's posting habits. Diver2Diver is, unfortunately, more to my liking at this point.

Hi Guys, Perhaps this will help people. This is the standard I try to use when posting on Scubaboard.

I think Rob follows (pretty much) the same procedure. As most know, I was an instructor at Scuba Specialties for several years. Most people on the board knew that. In February, I became a partner in Oasis (Stephen Ash helped let everyone know by creating the thread). In March, I became a partner in Downtown Scuba.

I have actively used the marketplace and calendar to promote my classes and trips at both shops. While posting in the main forum, I've always tried to remain neutral. In fact there are many posts where I have pointed someone to El Mar, All Wet, or other shops (I followed Stephen Ash's posts and emulated him when I first joined).

This is a community for sharing information and facilitating the growth of our sport. If you want to advertise, use the marketplace. That's what is there for. In the cases where my shop has been able to help, I have tried to throw out other options and my shop. In those cases, I usually put a small line at the bottom of my posting with the words "Full Disclosure, I work for ..."

But, I think at this point it's a game to them, and I'm calling BS on this grammar thing. I think they're playing a little game, especially if there's THREE of them with this problem (boatflyer, diverfromhell, and scubadiver1302001). How many accounts DID you have, boatflyer?
Office Manager? Divecons? GM? anyone else I failed to mention?

I am taking offense to being lumped in with the group. I've been trying not to get in on this post, but I now feel the need to defend those of us that are not playing the shell game. There are quite a few of us that are divecons, inst., and such. So don't blame us all.

If you really feel SS is correct in their stance, fine. Post as such, and give us full disclosure that you work there. That's fair, and we can certainly agree to disagree.
But the nonsense that I now feel is a deliberate attempt at disrupting the intent of this board that has come exclusively from that "side" is ridiculous, and the GM apparently asked for a big internet hug. For what? So he can pull some more money out of someone's pockets?
And I'm not putting you in the bed, since you didn't make it. I don't even expect you to state your opinion any more than that. I'm appreciative that you would post here, clearly, and give us a perspective. Steven Ash alluded to a lot of good instructors over there, and there are always good people in any organization. I can tell you're one of the good ones just by refusing to participate in this ruse.
My anger over their deception is only aimed towards the culprits, and the organization that encourages it. Not the people who didn't engage. Does their actions change your mind about working with any of them?
I can't tell the players without a scorecard around here. So, please accept my apology that I meant not to lump the "members" who didn't participate in with the "members" who did.

Then someone needs to come clean and I expect everyone will agree to drop it and let them start over. Barring that, SS is the prime feature of my two most active subscribed threads and these threads continue to climb in their Google position for a search of the dive shops name. It's their funeral.
