Ann what took you 2 hours to post a news story?

She doesn't use translating software, she takes the time to translate carefully so meaning is more thoroughly conserved.

Ann, hope your work shows back up. I hate losing a post even when it's only several minutes of typing.
I was reading when the thread went "Poof!"

Oh, God, I just love it when you get all manly and stuff?

Where's the Scuba Mau boat accident thread ? I just spent almost 2 hours searching and translating newspaper stories from Spanish to English and lost it all when I hit send (invalid thread). I know the tone of this thread was getting nasty at times (and haven't read what has been posted for the past 2 hours or so), but I'm pretty upset that I've wasted 2 hours of hard work. :shakehead:
Oh no! It is good to save a copy of anything important to your computer first, before trying to post. Things happen at times. So sorry. Hope it shows up, and thanks.

Perhaps there should be an off topic thread, someplace for peeps to go and rip on each other so as not to take the original threads down the toilet.
Possible, but how do you get the trouble makers to go to it instead.

SB will have a "timeout" button, kinda like the "like" button and if three or more people click the timeout button, then the troublemaker will be banned from the current thread and only allowed to vent his frustrations in the "timeout" thread for the next hour. He will receive a notice when he tries to post in the current thread [TIMEOUT FOR ONE HOUR!] [You may only post in the timeout section] with a link to the timeout thread. Anyone who wants to join him there is also allowed to post, no restrictions for the good boys and girls.

I'm a member of another board and when they have issues like this they ban users. There is a "banned" thread with every banned users name posted, quite embarrassing. When adults act like children, sometimes you have to discipline them like children...

Well, the discussion had turned to newspaper stories found on the web and whether they were based on one or several different sources, so I did a bit of research and comparison. Spent time linking the same article posted on different sites and explaining why that kind of stuff happens. Then actually started reading the article, which was pretty long, and translated the parts related to the glass bottom/no glass bottom issue.

As Sallye wrote, I don't use translators, so it takes time, plus I like to double check words in the dictionnary when I have a doubt (and since it's my job to have doubts, I tend to double check a lot… especially when I know fellow picky SB members might be reading :whistling:)

Hopefully, it will have been saved. If not, oh well. It's not like this post was gonna cure cancer, bring peace on earth or win me the Pulitzer price.

PS: thanks DD and Sallye.

You guys will be able to beat up on each other again soon. Your thread was getting too nasty, and the moderators needed time to clean up all of the trashy posts.

A sanitized version will return shortly. Until then... Don't start a new one.

Thats like watching porn with no people in it. What's the point!:rofl3:

Google translations are marginal. Even with a competent translation, you still have the issue of whether newspaper reports are factual.

You basically just said what I posted before the sanitation began. I guess we'll just have to see how much of the orginal thread survives.

And while they're in timeout can we poke them with sticks or throw rotting fruit at them?

Kinda reminds me of the Regan administration, just, "The Good News" but that's OK, it's their play ground, we just get to visit, and that's fine.:D

We should all just shut up and enjoy our ketchup!:signofcross:
