Here's a 2 part question:

1- What other sports hobbies do you have?
2- How many of you do those other things a lot less or not at all since getting your cert?

I used to bike a lot, at least 3 times a week, a few hundred miles every summer. In 2000 my sister and brother in law road accross country, and I took about a month off work, flew out to meet them, and road 1000 miles in from Albuquerque to Salt Lake. Last summer I think I had the bike out about 3 times!

I play hockey too. Used to play on about 2-3 teams, was anal about my equipment. If a stick got the tiniest chip, it got a new blade, little scuff on my shield and I got a new one, retape everything before every game. Now I play one night a week, the blades on my sticks look like they've been through a wood chipper, and if my shield gets much worse I won't even be able to see through it anymore!

Interesting topic.

Sportwise i play squash, rugby (at a low level) and attend matches to spectate as well. My ability to do these has decreased since i started diving due to only having weekends free to do either. In the winter its not too bad as very little diving happens as the weather is too bad but in spring and autumn it involves a fair bit of juggling.

Used to attend the gym 3 days a week but ive gotten lazy.

Other hobbies, i enjoy light aircraft flying (although yet to scrape up the money for a PPL) and gliders.

I enjoy travelling and aim to go abroad as much as possible which with budget airlines isnt too difficult. 4-5 trips per year i hope to be able to manage finances permitting. Last year was a good year.

My real hate is being stuck indoors for days on end and not doing anything. Sadly thats exactly what ive been forced to for the last few weeks due to the weather.

I still play a lot of baseball when the ocean is rough. I used to climb mountains before I began diving. I've only climbed a handful of peaks since 1989, but diving ensures that I don't miss it too much.

You mean there is something else other than Scuba diving??? I used to do some camping and hiking, but havent done that in a while.

Ride my Harley

My main other activity is cycling... I started riding this summer when the visibility got bad... thankfully many people from my dive club also cycle durring the summer, so durring the winter we dive, the summer we bike... Went from barely riding 4 miles at a time, to a Metric Century (67miles) over the durration of the summer, starting at least a few weeks after summer started, so proabably over 2 months time.... I think it helped a ton in getting me in better shape for diving this year, after the first dive of the year, my SAC rates were WAY lower than the end of last years diving. Also all the hill climbing strenghtend my legs a ton... I don't recall my gear feeling as light as it did on my first dive this year, I hardly can feel the weight of it anymore :D

Who has time for anything else but SCUBA (and the hours at the computer editing the video footage)? Of course I do kayak... to get to more remote dive sites along our shores!

Martial Arts.

I'm supposed to be intensly focused on training for my second degree Black Belt test in May but all I can think about is diving!

Damn, I wish I was in the water right now (there I go again)
