How thick is too thick? Asking because I have a ceramic cutter too …
4-5 millimetres? Think netting on lost lobster pots. I suspect the ceramic blades are quite brittle and fishing gear gets covered in all kinds of growth underwater. Steel EZcutter worked as did trauma shears (both covered in silicone grease :-) ).

For really thick ropes, serrated knife and a lot of patience or diagonal/wire cutter.

I carry a ceramic cutter on my wrist and ER shears on my camera arm. I would use the shears for a heavy net, but no hesitation using the ceramic if that is whats at hand. It came with several blades and i am happy to spend one on a good cause.
