Wetsuit Help

Hey guys
I've been diving an ex rental wetsuit that i picked up cheap last year, it'a 7mm farmer john style suit. Last few dives i have been freezing, so cold that i nearly called the dive. So i picked up a 7mm Henderson hyperstretch single piece this evening, which is so much more comfortable than what i was wearing it is scary> I also picked up a 7mm vest for under it. What i am wondering is, is the vest overkill? do i need it with the wetsuit? I'm just used to diving 14mm over my chest, but then the wetsuit i was diving was never great anyway. Any opinions? I Can still return the vest, but obvioulsy if i dive it i keep it...

There's a thread in the exposure suit forum about the suit i bought so i'm going to post to that thread too, just wanted to ask the people that dive the same waters as me..

Everybody is different. I was ok with a 7m jumpsuit of similar quality for my first dive at Breakwater earlier this year. But the second dive was not sounding very enticing. My answer is a ds of course. The key is to find a way to warm up on surface interval which is not always easy. I would keep the vest if it was not too expensive.

thanks brian, don't want to wear any more than i have to, yet don't want to be cold!! it's a fine line that differs from person to person i know...

hooded vest? Keep it. Not hooded, exchange it for hooded. A hooded vest keeps
the cold water from coming down your neck, or at least makes it go farther before it
hits skin.

I dive with that wetsuit, keep the vest, I added a skin underneath and was toasty warm with 51 degree water last weekend

I use a 5mm hooded vest under a 7mm one-piece, and I never get cold. I'd keep it.
