I've been jetskiing this area for the last six years and have hit the majority of lakes and creeks in a 100 mile radius of Waxahachie and several beyond that as well. Almost all of them are really murky. CCSP right now has better visibility than 99% I have seen. The ones that have stuck out in my mind as clearer than the rest are Possum Kingdom and Richland Chambers. And RC ain't that clear.

Also, on one trip to Lake Belton, I found some really clear water towards the south side of it. I could see large rocks about 10 foot down or so. Since I have started diving, I have wanted to go see if I could find it again.

Other than those few, I don't know of any other higher viz spots around. Waxahachie Lake, Bardwell Lake, Joe Pool, Cedar Creek are all really limited viz. But I don't know how big a factor visibility is to y'all.

"shallow, cold, and muddy" that's the "swamp" in Texas Swamp Divers. Couldn't be any worse than Mountain Creek lake a contaminated, 5 foot deep, crap shoot that I dove this past summer.
Hmmm Costa Maya, sounds like you may be taking a cruise??!!! NICE!! I have been on 10 cruises and have dove on all of them but one.

I guess I am just bored with CSSP. All summer long we dive at CSSP because it is a great training facility. Now I get to dive for fun because I don't have to work as much in the winter with classes. I have a dry suit, I love to scavenge, look for stuff, you know? I need to get in some recreational diving, rejuvenate the old diving soul before I get to burnt out....again. Troy and I used to go out and scout out anything we could legally dive in around here. We have even dove at Cleburne State Park! Visibility is not a big issue with me. I like the challenge of diving blind. I like the cold water.
I also love the blue water and I do that to as many times a year as I can. I guess the challenge is once you have been diving for a long time you look for other avenues to keep your interest peaked. Some people get into techinical diving, cave diving, photography, etc. to keep them going. I investigated the deep diving aspect of diving and I just don't think it is for me. I really want to do the ice diving certfication I have on my radar this winter. I like photography, but I don't love it. I love to travel to blue water but I can not always afford it. I am going for my instructor this winter and spring so I will be able to start teaching this summer. Now that I have time to dive recreationally, I am just ready to get out there.

You need to come to Brownwood. You would just love my friend's stock tank. Like diving in chocolate milk.

Ok maybe I need to clarify ( pun intended). I want to have the chance to find stuff, not just dive in chocolate milk...... :yuck: , a stock tank? :yuck::yuck:

Yeah, a stock tank, along with that stock tank smell. Took a while to get that smell out of my scuba gear....or maybe I'm just used to it now. Next weekend at Valhalla, let me know if you smell something funny.

Bo - you doing the Grand Princess in January? I'm booked on that too. Looking for local dive operators in Belize, Majahual, GC, and Coz so I won't be on a cattle boat with "up to 25 other divers" as the nice lady from Princess told me.

We leave Dec 3.

She forgot to give you the "good" lie. The "good" lie is (and I have been on princess b4 so it sounds bout right) is that you are taken care of. They prolly wont take you to any awsome spots becuase all the cattle tend to tear up the reef and they like to save those spots for good divers but....

We were going to just go with the ship cronies for convenience but since the dates and times were posted the prices went up by 33%!!! Had to retreat and regroup the whole game plan LOL.

The place in Costa Maya (Majahal... whatever) is got the claws in. You have to go into town and get your tank but as far as I know that is the only spot you have to do that. In the rest of the stops the ship will provide if needed for thier "shore excursions". I'm gonna bring our stuff with us. The Dive Center in Majahal is prolly the closest place ( I think they ran everyone else out of bussiness) I treid contacting a couple others but they emailed back that they either moved 20 miles away from Maja or went out of biz altogether!

The stop at Belize is only 6 hours or so we were gonna book with the ship. They take you straight from the boat to Turneffe to get a couple tanks in and then they get you back JIT to hit a couple shops then it's back to the boat. There is not enough time to make it to the blue hole but if you are dying to go with a charter then....

For GC we were just gonna hit Eden Rock and maybe wander along the beach or catch a cab south and do a couple tanks of some shore diving.
