We use both the Optical Plus and the Eddy Current (Visual +3) on all of our aluminum rental cylinders here in Key Largo. We use the Visual+3 mostly because we can save a digital copy of the eddy current results in our computer just for liability protection in the event of a worst case scenario. I have seen customers on the boat drop tanks with regs attached so we immediately take it out of service and give it both inspections.
The Optical Plus is superior to mirrors and lights which I wouldn't consider satisfactory given the availability and superior magnification and illumination provided by the Optical Plus.
