I will be flying in with a friend into portland. I was wondering about maybe doing a dive on Saturday. So, the question is;

Are there good dives on the coast in that area? Dive charter companies? I would also need somebody to tag along with me (DM/ instructor or something)

Also, can i dive comfortably in my 7mm wetsuit/vest? it worked good to about 45* and that was as cold as i got.

Your 7MM should work fine. Plan to head to Hood Canal at the least.

You can dive over at the Oregon Coast at Bar View, drive down to Newport and do the finger jetties, Netarts bay or Nehalem. Newport is about a 2 hour drive south, Netarts, Barview or Nehalem are about 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours. Hood Canal or the Seattle/Tacoma are would be your best bet but I dive the Oregon Coast several times a year.

Small world, I grew up in Long Beach.

Good Luck!

Your best bet would be to go to Hood Canal or Puget Sound. The diving's better and the drive is only slightly longer than diving the Oregon coast. Water temps are 50-54 depending on site and depth right now. We're into summer diving! I can't dive this Saturday or I'd offer to show you a couple of sites. If you want more specific suggestions, PM me.
Hope you have a good time here in Portland and while diving.
