Dude, if you keep posting those pics, I just might come down with something nasty and have to stay home from work :D

Thursday morning.

Southy winds, but the usual baylike odor of low tide is all I detected. No backstroking fish that I could see. A dive boat with a half dozen small flags in the water about a mile or less offshore. Tide's been incoming for two hours. Don't see any dive flags off the beach at 9:30.

<groan> My aching whatever. I dont know if I'm going to make it to work tomorrow.

Michael, what are the stakes for? U practicing limbo?

C'mon Jeff, those are the turtle nests up there in Sarasota, they only use 2 stakes there with the occaisional self releasing cage where as every one in Lovers Key has 4 and self releasing cages! :D

I know, but I saw those stakes and ribbon, and that stupid song just started up in my head. And it's still there aaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

2 pm - 1 hr after high tide.

Rats...

There was a narrow reddish brown band at the water's edge, and some lightly killed puffs and catfish and...looks a like an eel. Not shock and awe...more like awww, crap.

Report - Venice Dive Aug - 10

Got a later start than planned. First dive started at ~10:30-11:00 with my daughter at Alhambra. No signs of the red tide. (Check Venice beach on the way in and saw the life guard flags were "green".) Vis 5 ft by shore going to ~10ft in about 18ft deep of water. Found three megs, some small teeth and a horse tooth :) !. My daughter found the horse tooth and its our first. On the way back to shore (at about 12:30-1:00) we hit the red tide which was located right by shore. Very noticable. A maroon like substance and the smell from the dead sea life was also noticable and sad.

On a side note - first time with my apollo spilt fins and loved them. Previously diving with Jet Fins (very good also - but different - but thats for another thread).

For second dive, we decided to check out Venice Beach to see if the red tide was there. As we pulled in to the parking lot, we noticed the "purple" flags at the life guard towers. Sure enough the red tide was there :(. We did notice that the winds we from the west - bad sign. Supposely the west winds blow the red tide in (at least thats what the life guard said). We then proceeded to Service Club Park. We saw a "minor" breakout of the red tide there (some minor discoloration by shore). So we decided to give it a try (our first time diving at Service Club Park). Well........ by shore the vis was <3ft and at 18ft deep it was <1ft so we turned around and ended the dive. Found 3 small teeth on the way in.
