I recently an old ScubaPro regulator serviced and was told that it doesn't depth adjust anymore and that it isn't safe for diving. :(

I was wondering if there is any purpose of keeping it? (Air gun, compressor, paint gun, etc?) Or is this thing a really pretty paper weight now?

Thanks-

They offered to sell me just a 1st stage since the 2nd stage was in great shape. I already have MY complete setup (primary tank & pony) with good regs... This one I picked up along with a craigslist package for my girlfriend who is getting into diving.

I know the technician who serviced the gear and has been diving 20+ years with over 3,000 dives so I trust him when he says don't dive it. He says if I'm going to sell it I should state as a safety for liability that it can't be used for scuba. So i was wondering if there is anything else regulators can be used for besides diving.

Seriously you might want a second opinion as regulators are easily rebuilt, "won't depth adjust" is pretty vague

I assume it works fine above ground it just isn't safe for SCUBA? If so, there are all sorts of uses for regulators around the shop. It's handy to have a first stage set up with a blower on it for blowing regs dry, for instance. You can also use it has a cheap DIN adapter for a transfill whip (I wouldn't use it for oxygen, but air would be fine).

Depending on the exact way it's broken, it may also be ok as an argon bottle reg. Ask your tech.

Did he specify what component of the 1st stage made it "not diveable" and is this a part that is not available? Is it a case of the repair will cost you more than a new 1st stage? You have provided very limited info (old SP reg). 1st stages are relatively simple. I'm still diving a circa 1980's Sherwoodl and I have friends diving even older SP and aqualung stuff. Just replace what isn't working unless the cost to do so is more than it is worth to you. Are you sure the issue isn't that they are upset that you purchased from Craigslist?
