Don't start. NetDoc yelled at me for that. <see edit reason below>

RTBDiver edited his post, wussed out and made his more PC so it made mine irrelevant. Reason enough?

More info.

American Airlines is offering customers the convenience to change their plans. Customers ticketed to travel to, from or through the areas listed (San Pedro Sula, Honduras (SAP) and Tegucigalpa, Honduras (TGU) may change flights without penalty. Here is the link for more information: AA Travel Alert.

Continental Airlines is also providing the option to re-schedule or re-route your travel once, without penalty, if you are ticketed to/from the same cities listed above. Here is Continential’s link for more information: Continental Travel Notices.

If you are scheduled to fly to San Pedro Sula (SAP) or Tegucigalpa (TGU) on another airline, such as TACA, please check directly with the airline to change your flight arrangements. Currently, no travel alert appears on TACA's website.

Not surprisingly, the US State department earlier today issued a travel advisory suggesting that all "non-essential" travel to Honduras be delayed --US State Department Issue Travel Advisory on Honduras

I'm going to contact resorts in the Bay Islands to discuss the situation tomorrow and will report on what I find out.

Hi everyone:

At 11:15 a.m. EDT today I talked with the CCV front desk and was told that nothing unusual is happening on Roatan. CCV operations are normal. Incoming guests will get a phone call if things change for the worse. My wife and I arrive this coming Saturday via Delta.

A ScubaBoard Staff Message...

Please don't shoot the messenger!

Thanks!

Shoot the messenger? Heck, I can't even find him, he seems to have gone awol. Over 24 hours since our update. I am hoping to hear that update from the minister of tourism.
I will be calling the Vice minister of tourism in the next week or so, if this thing is still in the news i will try to report back what she has to say

hi all,

my hubby and i are suppose to head off to roatan (bibr) in about 1 1/2 weeks. we too are waiting with abated breath.

i just don't know. the resort owner really wants to reassure us that it's life as usual at roatan, but i just can't imagine that it's a good thing that our government is supporting the opposition of those in power.

is anyone on this thread in roatan, right now?

-robin

I will also be travelling to Roatan in a week. Looks like things on Roatan should be fine for travel. I can not see how it will be affected when they are almost like a seperate country. In either case any update from the current travellers or resident would ease some concerns.

To be honest I am more worried over the bugs than the travel. Picking up every conceivable insect repellent!! Cheers

Direct communication from the Island is limited due to the volume of traffic. Direct reports for SCUBA Board are not the resident's first priority.

Here is something that came to me today: (I have left the perceptions of the Roatan resident's mood intact, but have redacted other political commentary)

"Ed called from his cell phone as he was driving down the road in Roatan.
All is calm, the best he has seen it in years. He was on his way
to the government office to pick up permits for a new marina he is
building. The Roatan population is glad to see that Honduras congress
impeached the president and removed him office and feel that this was
done totally legally. Contrary to some news reports, there is no military
rule or coup in Honduras.

I also talked to Mario in tourism who will be sending a letter from the
Minister of tourism later today. He assures me that except for some
protests pockets in Tegucigalpa, all is well on the mainland.

"

The other thread dealing with the coup was moved to "The Pub" and I can't access it. Is that an area reserved for paying members?

Meanwhile, the old impeached president is planning to return (possibly to a jail cell according to the media). Sounds like more fun and games. I don't understand, he gets exiled to Costa Rica and I am stuck here in Houston, LOL.
