Is Bob Collins the guy with Divers-Supply who has a monumental amount of fluid built up in his elbow? I didn't realize he bought HOG/Edge. Essentially he's saying you have to take HIS course in order to get the kits?
I have never met him in person so I'm not too sure. I don't know his actual title or relationship with HOG/Edge but on TDI/SDI's website he is listed as "Director of Pro Development for EDGE-HOG Dive Gear’s line of product."

I would definitely look into DGX flavor of Deep6 regs! This is pulled from their site:

All our regulators are Nitrox Ready. What really makes all our regulators stand out from the crowd are our value prices plus the DGX Gears lifetime limited warranty. Dive Gear Express believes the consumer has the "right-to-repair" and our policy is to make the DGX Gears regulator service parts individually available for purchase without restriction. The service manuals and schematic diagrams, along with links to our educational service videos, for each of our model regulators are available to the general public under the Product Attachments tab of the DGX Gears regulator service parts kits.

Not to mention they are in Pompano Beach!

There's another brand, Scubagaskets, which makes an all 316 stainless body piston reg that's very similar in build to a scubapro MK 10, which some may argue was the best that Scubapro ever got. Rob Singler wrote the manual and also had a lot to do with final design tweaks. I have a DIN one I'm testing out and so far it holds IP great and the second stages breathe really nice. I'm torturing it doing cold water beach dives in Northern California.
These piston regs are really easy to work on and they will sell parts to the end user.

This must be a sealed piston design since you're diving cold water, correct? I imagine its packed with grease and a band? I'll look at them

Are the regulators good? I've heard mixed reviews of them, but I've heard raving reviews of the DGX D6, which someone told me was a rebranded Deep6....maybe?
He did not buy Edge/HOG. You do not have to take his course. That statement is misleading at best.

You need to take a course from an authorized Edge/HOG reg service course instructor. There are a number of them around the country/world. This has always been the case to get the manuals because of liability concerns. I also wrote the first draft of the D3 manual and created some of the Edge service reg materials. TDI was also involved in the course creation and Edge/HOG reg tech instructors were certified as instructors through TDI and their legal team had some input as far as releasing materials to those who had not taken the class.

The reg tech class also DID NOT authorize those who took the class to work on any regs other than their own. There was a separate procedure for doing that for shop tech and not all instructors were authorized to conduct the shop tech class. I was. That class was just a little different in that I covered all of the regs in the Edge HOG line physically while many instructors were only doing the D1, D3, and maybe the D2 and only mentioning the Edge line. Some were only covering the D3 or D1 because that's what their students had.

I was one until I retired in 2022. I taught courses at Beneath the Sea and the Baltimore Dive Show, as well as in my home and at locations in Ohio. I taught over 50 people to service their own regs, as well as some dive shop techs.

I also wrote the DGX service manuals and the D6 is not a rebranded Deep6. It's a balanced diaphragm reg that comes from the same factory as the HOG D1X which is the same reg as the DGX D6. Ocean Divers Supply in Taiwan

The Deep Six Signature is not the same as the D6.

The D6 and HOG D1X turrets will not rotate 360 degrees with hoses.

The Signature and the HOG D3 will. Both were kinda designed with sidemount divers in mind, who prefer turrets that will swivel with hoses, though both do work with singles and back mount doubles just fine.

Deep Six initially brought in the D6 for DGX until DGX decided to just have the factory make them directly for them under the DGX brand. The D6 and HOG D1X are workhorse regs. They are a proven design and they work. My customers were/are diving them to depths in excess of 300ft and thousands of feet back in caves.

I dived HOG regs in 2010 and became a dealer and service class instructor in 2012. Over the last 12 years I owned probably 2 dozen HOG regs personally and serviced a few hundred of them between 2012 and 2022.

You answered all of my questions and even some I would of had after. Thanks!!!

DGX also sells service kits for DiveRite and Mares XR regs.

I think I remember hearing that DGX stopped carrying Apeks because they were not allowed to sell kits to users as per Aqualung (Apeks' parent company) policies.
