If you cannot trust the advice of a professional technician who physically inspected and tested your regulator and told you that “it is ok to dive with it”, then why would you trust the opinions of a bunch of random amateurs on a discussion board who haven’t seen, handled or tested your regulator ?

In a perfect world, your statement would be correct. It won't be the first time that a freshly serviced regulator has leaks, free flows and works bad. There are lots of examples here in this board, crowded with random amateurs, that have had problems with just serviced regulators.
 
i hope it was not sealed in a plastic bag?

i would say that if you do not trust the local dive shop, then why bring it to them? find another repair option that you trust.
It’s a second opinion of sorts, what’s wrong with that? Like “does this sound right?”There are actually people on here that know what they’re talking about, while not every dive shop is competent.

If they didn’t have it serviced and something went wrong, someone would be here saying just the opposite. 🙄

I hardly think people on this board are all random amateurs, there are many who have worked in the industry in various forms. And to be honest, I would trust the opinion of the "random amateurs" on this board a long time before I would trust a random supposed tech (using that loosely from what I have seen most places) and a random dive shop in some random place.

I agree that not all people on SB are random amateurs. But that was the OP’s second post, so I doubt whether OP has a sense of which opinions are worth much. Inevitably there is always a lot of conflicting opinions and advice given on SB.

are you sure you responded to the right person? i never said anything about people on here not knowing what they are talking about.
the op absolutely should have it checked before using.
i also agree with the idea of doing many of the self tests suggested here. including a pool dive. thats what we always did.
my only point is that if you are paying someone to "service" or "inspect/test" your gear, i would assume you will trust their opinion. otherwise i would bring it to someone i do trust. if not, whats the point? you might as well just save your money and just self test it on your own.
i also agree there have been many cases where shops make mistakes and/or provide poor service. i have had this happen more than once.
it can be tough to find a solid shop.

Even though you send your regulator to a shop that you trust, after receiving the serviced regulator, prior to go diving, test it in a pool, to be sure that the reg works.
Any one can make a mistake, even the pros. And the warranty for the service is useless 30 feet underwater.

absolutely nothing wrong with asking questions here. thats what this place is for.

Except this isn't a freshly serviced regulator. The tech did a a visual inspection and pressure check, not a service. No o-rings were disturbed.

To the OP.

Go ahead and dive it. You are actually much more likely to have a problem with a newly serviced reg than one that was working fine when put away and then inspected.
