For my lack of input at the end of last week - I had food poisoning on Friday. Where's a :nurse: when you need one?! I am convinced my wife is trying to kill me and steal the last £6 3s 2d that she hasn't yet squandered.....

As always, my beer belly votes for an NEC-timed drink, but as I am exhibiting there and also giving presentations between 2.15 & 3.15 on both days I would prefer to leave it somewhat flexible. You are more than welcome to use my stand (1017) as a rendezvous point or would you prefer the bar? I donlt want to have to give my presentation half-cut, so would prefer a later drink that an earlier one!

Anyway 2 days work to do today, so see ya later

Hopefully I'll see you there (If I get let off the leash for that weekend!)

Heck, its a good job I'm not going then.. otherwise I'd be there on the wrong dates!
Yes, you are quite right... I've dug through this month's Dive mag. and it is Sat 12th and Sun 13th October at the NEC Birminham. Tickets are £9.50 on the door or just £7 booked in advance (before 7th Oct) Ticket hotline is 020 8977 9878 or book online at www.diveshows.co.uk

I would be interested in going to these, the London one definatly, ExCel is just down the road, well ok not technically, but I do a fair bit of contract work in docklands so I'm there quite frequantly anyway

Not sure about the Brum one, if I did it would only be for one day.. gotta save the B&B fee for my OW

Builderbloke, I would be interested in what club you goto in London, is it expensive? is it any good? obviously its not total rubbish if you attend, silly question I guess, what sort of location is it?

Im based in SW2 (Streatham)

Cheers Guys & Gals

hi Phoenix your only 5 minits up the road from me im in barnes sw13 the club i go to is called hilsag and we train in hayes on thursday nights
there a group from the SAA sub aqua assosiation

the costs are very cheep for a novis you pay £200 and that gets you

snorkeler + addvanced snorkeler (more of a fitness thing)

elementry diver ( an introduction to scuba )

and open water diver it includes all the lectures, pool training, the four open waterdives needed for open water and use of the club kit up till you pass + membership to the SAA and insurance

from then on it costs £40 every 3 months for membership and that gives you use of the pool every thursday night from 8:30 till 10:00 and free training all the way up to dive master + access to very nicely discounted specheality courses which can be coverd by the club if your willing to use the skills to train people in the club

it also gets you free membership to the local working mans club were we all end up for light refreshments after training :)

and your more than welcome to come down and say hi and get your boots wet if you like what you see then join if not no worries

Thanks mate, looks pretty interesting, I tried a few websites I found mentioned for the club (namley hilslag.co.uk and hilslag.com) neither worked just yet

Whats the status on membership renewals, what happens if one quarter you cant afford it and the next you can? is it just temporarily suspended or do you need to pay more to re gain it?
just I am curretly doing Contract work as the market is a bit dead and i'm not sure of financial changes :)

as for the 5 minute thing, I wish  It will take me over an hour and a half to get to Hayes by Public Transport (I dont drive :/
Ill see about poping up sometime for a try dive, what is needed? just some shorts and a t-shirt for the pool? does the try dive include scuba trying? or is it going to be 'here is a snorkel have fun' I would really like to see how I feel doing scuba again after all these years! :)

Cheers for any more input mate!

ok membership you pay the club quarterly the club pay all there bills anualy were all very laid back if you miss a payment then you miss a payment we all know how expensive this sport is so you just pay when youve got it my buddy joined at the same time i did and he fell behind by £120 quid (3 quarters) no one was that botherd as its not a profit organization so nobody goes without wages as nobody gets wages

as for the 5 min thing i drive and have room in the car for 1 more

and the trydive youll need shorts and a t shirt and you and me will be at the bottom of the pool in full scuba

you dont have to pay quarterly you can pay weekly which works out to £ 3 something it would cost you more to just swim at your local swimming baths once a week

and finaly those links used to work but dont any more

try this one http://groups.msn.com/Scoobadoobadoo

Some ideas for the winter ahead.
How about...

The Shark Dive at Blue Planet - Briain's biggest aquarium at Ellesmere Port, Cheshire. A good one for the winter perhaps? Maybe combined with something else local. And of course, some serious socialising (beer). Costs are £55 per head for divers and discounted rates of £5 per adult and £2.50 for children apply to spectators. Numbers are fixed at 12 (4 in the water at a time). Dives are usually in the evening.

Another suggestion to beat the winter blow outs could be combining a trip to the Royal Navy Submarine Escape Training Tank (SETT) at Gosport, a days diving at nearby Horsea Island, and maybe a visit to the Submarine museum thrown in too for good measure. The SETT can be booked for three-hour periods and costs £25 each for a minimum of 10 divers, for those that haven't heard of it - its 30 metres deep (6 metres dia.) as clear as gin and warmer than your bath! A day's diving at Horsea Island when pre-booked is £7.50. Needless to say, some beer during the trip too.

I haven't done Stoney Cove later than November. Does anyone know what it's like after that? The only down side is that it gets too busy at weekends. But the pubs are great!

And I've never dived Wraysbury. Is that worth a visit? Any beer?

What do you think....? Any other ideas....?
