One dive yesterday (Reef Check with EDA) and three dives today at Scuba 2000.

Temps are now down to 23C …. 5mm semi dry in use now from today although I used my 5mm wetsuit yesterday (24C and 92 minute dive)

Inch 1 was amazing

Inch 2 provided me with some usual subjects including a Phidiana indica I think

Plus a wee shrimp on Martini Rock

The owner of Scuba 2000 was on the boat today and threw a wobbly because I took a photograph with one of his staff in it, but he gladly posed with his staff for a group photograph and other divers later on …… no comment!

Is the 5mm "semi dry" noticeably warmer than the regular 5mm wetsuit?

Absolutely, your pee does not escape an stays warmer for longer

Seriously though, it does stay much warmer due to the seals. My 5mm semi dry is over 10 years old, but is much warmer than my 5mm wet suit that is one year old. All to do with trapped water. The neck, wrist and ankle seals are pretty good at stopping the water entering or leaving.

An interesting first dive of the year.

Plans for my buddy Dimitris and I changed when I reached Scuba 2000 to find two of my air tanks sitting outside with a notice attached

Well his loss, probably spent over $3,000 last year diving there last year with the number of dives I did, plus accommodation and other people I have brought over who were visiting UAE.

Called Dimitris and we dived at Divers Down.

Water temp was 22C, Air temp 21C and a wee bit choppy too.

When I was being handed my camera I was above the boat

Only did one dive on Inch 1, conditions below were perfect, no current and 10M viz

Two dives on Inchcape 10 yesterday with Coastal Technical Divers at Fujairah.

The wreck is only 1.6Km from the marina which was also a plus, load the boat without getting wet and a short trip too.

Water temp was 21C and visibility between 3-5M and I was shooting wide angle! Well I need some wide angle shots of this wreck for an article and one dive I might get it lucky although this is only the second time I have visited this wreck.

On the second dive my buddy Dimitris bailed as he was too cold to do a second dive, so I buddied up with one of the tech guys on a rebreather and took my macro set up, but no nudis spotted unfortunately :(

TECHNICAL DIVING POLICY

Coastal Technical Divers (CTD) encourages DIR minded exploration and adventure diving This iscarried out within a framework of policies and protocols that encourage a realistic assessment andeffective management of the risks associated with this type of diving.

  •  CTD accepts the credentials of all training agencies – it does, however, reserve the rightto require check out dives at its own discretion.
  •  A CTD liability and indemnity waiver form and a boat travel indemnity waiver form mustbe completed prior to each dive trip.
  •  All divers must present a valid dive insurance plan (DAN insurance is recommended).
  •  To prepare surface and shore support as well as logistics, all technical divers must submittheir complete dive plan at least 24 hours before the dive and this must be approved byCTD.
  •  CTD and its partner facilities do not permit solo diving or “self-sufficient” diving regardlessof experience, certifications or training agency.
  •  Divers wishing to conduct penetration dives on wrecks deeper than 40msw must havetechnical wreck or cave certification.
  •  CTD’s maximum air/EANx depth is 40 msw, all dives deeper than 40 meters must be onheliox, trimix or triox.
  •  No dives deeper than the highest rating held by each technical diver will be permitted

Burhan, is this where you arranged Nitrox before when you were staying over at Scuba 2000?

  • Burhan, is this where you arranged Nitrox before when you were staying over at Scuba 2000?

Yes, but only once. All other times after that they had an excuse of why they couldn't fill the tanks. I made to feel like it was an inconvenience to fill nitrox. I wasn't impressed.

The rules you quote seem to stress technical diving not our type of diving. Who else would you dive with there other than S2K?

I have used Divers Down since early 2002 when they were based at the Oceanic Hotel. When that hotel went under refurbishment DD moved to the Miramar and I frequently dived from there when I did not dive S2K, much more organised and rental gear is in far better condition IMHO plus they sell stuff.

I also used to use Freestyle Divers at the Royal Beach Hotel just opposite Dibba Rock, fine if you want to dive Dibba Rock but a long haul to Martini. Not dived there in 3 years though since the owner Terry died a few years ago, his son took over the operation.

When I did my Reef Check we used the Palms Dive Center at the Radisson Blu also near Dibba Rock. Appears well organised and they have Nitrox! Might give them a try out in a non-EDA dive to see how they perform.
