Guys
As an introduction to reg maintenance, I've got a Mk10 on its way to me.
To remove the HP cap, what size pins does the pin spanner need?
Also what size of C spanner is appropriate for this reg body?
If it's in good nick, I might get some other tools in order to service it properly. Just need to strip it down first.
Cheers 🍻
Thanks.

Unfortunately in the UK nowadays we have the issue of having to pay tax and duty plus courier fees on items bought from abroad. Often makes it not viable. Pain in the ass for stuff not available in UK.

We were always supposed to pay, but HMRC weren’t as good at collecting.

About 30 years ago, I once had an HMRC guy show up at my then office in London to collect the Import duty and VAT for an order of shirts from the US. It wasn’t even a large amount of money, but I did buy my shirts in London after that episode. 😂

Trouble is now, the courier collects all the taxes along with their handling fees before delivery. It's not always clear how much it's going to be, particularly the last one 😕🤬

I no longer buy anything from the US for that reason. At least Aliexpress has a required agreement to collect the taxes in advance, and doesn’t charge any handling fee, so you know the total cost before you buy.

One of these gets you close to all you need, but is not as versatile as the Scubatools multi-tool, but has the advantage of a bottle opener

Yes, that one is great for travel (I had Pandora's original in Titanium). I now have this Scubatools one:

But for some neglected regs that don't want to come apart I am glad to have the Atomic tool (I think it might work on a mk10 as well but not sure): Atomic First Stage T-Tool with Piston Bullet

The Atomic tool looks like a great multi-tool for their 1st stages at a fair price !

But I noticed that Atomic has 3 pin holes in their HP seat retainer (SP MK5/MK10 has 2). Are there any differences in the piston diameter and bore between the Atomics and SP MK10 ?

Well.. now your question is evolving into a bit more complex direction
Do you want a tool that can work for a specific reg (or brand)? Or something that is “cross compatible”

Re the Atomic HP seat, you don’t need to engage all 3 holes btw — just 2 of them (the same watch tool would work)
Engaging all 3 (weren’t they more on an Atomic — closer to 6/8!?) is better to avoid slippage and scratching your reg

The SP multi tool would not be flexible in sizing, so you can’t use it for other purposes like a normal pin spanner

I’d get the thing that can do the generic job — and at the lowest price of the watch tool (which you have), that works perfectly
Maybe a pin spanner has even more range (bigger radius means you can also ise it also for 2nd stage covers among other things)

I’d start with what you have already amd see where the hobby takes you — unless you feel “all in” already (I did a year ago, but I wish I waited on some choices that I realize now were superfluous)

oh tough — fair guess yes
By how much — can’t say, haven’t opened an atomic yet
