Okey dokey, we have figured out when we are leaving :D Monday morning 0500 from the house, we're not going to the lake in Indiana until the trip home. Let me know if y'all are interested in meeting somewhere and making a caravan :D

Steve, we'll figure something out on the pick-up of the flag. I'll go to the university and get it tonight.

0500!

Okay, okay, I'm done hyperventilating. I'll have to start setting my alarm to get up early so I'm at least awake! BTW- what time are morning dives up in Toby? 6am? 7am?

Ken, are you coming Monday? Come on! Quit your job as a consultant and come join the road train!

Steve- methinks we ought to pack the car a day ahead if we're leaving that early. You work in Troy? I can come down there Friday after you're done and either I'll pack my stuff into your cardboard box, er, I mean car, or you can pack your stuff into my resort-style transport, er, I mean SUV.

If I'm driving, I could meet you before work, too, so your stuff doesn't sit in a hot car all day. This is, of course, assuming you work normal business hours.

The charter boats in Toby usually schedule 9:00am and 1:00pm departures from the docks in Little Tub Harbour. Check the schedules and sign up at Divers' Den and G&S Sports dive shops in Toby - they handle the bookings.

You would only use a dive flag on the shore dives. The charter boats will fly one when they tie up to the mooring buoy of the wrecks. The best and cheapest choice for a dive flag is probably the round inflatable ball that comes with a small flag on a short pole that sticks into the top. There is a separate section in the bottom to put water in to provide ballast. No real minimum size, and I don't bother with the flag on top. Bring a small reel with a bolt snap to attach to it.

You might want to try the smoked fish you can buy in a store on the way up north of Wiarton or in Toby - they really do a good job of it.

If I remember, I'll get one at the dive shop today, too. Is there a minimum size requirement? I don't know what he's got, but if he's got that styrofoam ball with the flag shoved into it, I'll go for that (unless it's too small!).

If you're getting one to add to your collection of gear I wouldn't go the styrofoam ball route, the size is fine but...well, they aren't much fun to tow. I think there are two of that type at the university and I can pick them both up if Steve will haul them. If you guys are good I might let you try towing mine to compare it to the ball (I will ear-thwap you if you try to sneak off with mine afterward).

Empressdiver is right, we only need them for the shore dives. I'm dead set on finding the anchor that's across the harbor from the lighthouse this year so we definitely need flags :D

Yes, 0500 :D We like to arrive early in the evening so we can settle in and get some dinner and a good nights sleep before starting to dive. When we drive to Florida we leave at 0300...pretend we're letting you sleep in :rofl3:

ALWAYS pack the car the night before

I plan to run a couple errands tonight. While you're kinda out of the way, I can swing over, especially since you're running out of your way to get the flippen' flags in the first place.

I think TG & I need to work out who drives and all.

My hours are 7:30-4:15. I'd have no problem running gear up to your place if you drive, or picking up gear from you if I drive. If I'm driving, we might want to test pack the car so we can make sure the mandatory gear fits and work out which optional things can go. I'd like to take my laptop, for example, so I can collect any digital pictures people take and compile an album, but that's hardly a mandatory item.

Do I detect that you're not feeling safe in something that can't tow 100,000 pounds???

I thought I'd pack my dive gear in the blue plastic bin I use when diving quarries. It contains the water, and since the plan to dive & drive on our last day... We can probably fit a couple sets of gear in there if we leave out fins, weights, and other things that don't hold water. In my car, I think the tanks have to go in the trunk, which puts my blue plastic bin on the backseat. I'm trying to remember how big WSU's dive flags are, but I think I previously figured them as back seat.
