Things your dive buddies do that get on your nerves

i must confess i am a slow gear upper,that is just the way it is,but i am that way all the time and hate being hurried,hurried overlooks important details. my dislikes are dfa at the top of the list and prefer side by side,it is so much easier to keep track of your buddy by glancing over rather than having to spin around to see if they are still there. I hate having a race with a dive buddy also and it can become a solo dive very quickly.

Oops, you're my pet peeve. Although at least you are cognizant of it. It's worse when the buddy is slow yet makes no attempt to get a headstart, or says they are "ready" when they are not ready then you spend 5 minutes bobbing in the water while they attend to "one more thing". And I hate it when people say they are "almost" ready.

Yes, I'm slow & methodical getting myself together. I try to get a head start every chance I can or at least make it very clear to my buddy that I AM SLOW! So far, most of my buddies have been very understanding (just hope my Adv. Nitrox instructor is as understanding).

Looks like I am another with the DFA. Those that I have dove with that do the DFA are usually the ones that are air hogs. So they figure that they can stay 10' above and last as long as you.

Personally I don't want anyone following me. I want them either left or right and slightly behind. I want to be able to either turn my head or slightly roll and see them. I'm not a duck and I don't follow like one.

Hey now! I was right there beside you there, a few weeks ago (I just didn't last very long after my drysuit started leaking). I only stayed a little tad behind, since I'm not super familiar with Falling rock. By the way, you're a great guide!

A big camera rig invariably spells trouble IMHO. I think it's like when you put a normal person in a Hummer they become an A-hole. A camera laden diver seems to assume that they have absolute right of way to the Nassau Grouper under the ledge and heaven help you if you happen to be hovering in the way of their shot. Divemasters I've been with tend to also warn that they make lousy dive buddies. You could stroke out and have your reg out of your mouth for ten minutes and they'd never notice.

I don't mind the DFA as long as they stay in the same spot, I only have to glance to see them.
What gets me is when I have a gun and a diver just has to get in front of me.
Thats not a smart place to be and he has spoked the fish before I can get a shot at them

I''m pretty slow and methodical gearing up too. But I find that if I don't take my time I get over exerted with a wicked dry mouth when on a cramped RIB

I have a dive buddy that just gets on my nerves so bad I strangle him!Every time we go diving he tailgates me,I cannot stand to feel my fins hitting something on every stroke.I've told him to back off a little but it never fails,there he is back on the tips of my fins,I've even accidently kicked his reg out of his mouth one time.You would think he would learn but oh well.Other than that he is a pretty good to dive with so I guess I won't strangle him.Do any of you have dive buddies who do things that just drive you crazy?

im greatful just to have someone to dive with. i think any one who gets wet will only get better with time!
