molasses reef, friday, 9/30/11



terrific day above and below the water in the upper keys today; light winds, sunshine, blue water(dusty) and few boaters. 1st dive; northern deep buoy @ molasses, light current, viz 50-60FT, depth 55-85FT, 70 minutes. super dive, lots of topicals, turtle, 4 eagle rays. 2nd; mdt current, viz 50FT, depth 55-86FT, 75 min. turtle, outgoing tide, abundant moon jellies from 50FT-surface. quiet on the reef all day,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

We are trying to do a quick one in the AM. Looks like we are heading to Davis. I am waiting for the coordinates for secret garden but they havent come in yet

i dove secret garden about 10 years ago with a friend out of venetian shores. a fantastic shallow reef, lush flora, (20-25ft) i believe was about 3 miles off holiday isle/whale harbor. no mooring balls then. plan on another mo trip tomorrow AM ,,,,,,,,

i dove secret garden about 10 years ago with a friend out of venetian shores. a fantastic shallow reef, lush flora, (20-25ft) i believe was about 3 miles off holiday isle/whale harbor. no mooring balls then. plan on another mo trip tomorrow AM ,,,,,,,,

winds gusting to 18KTS early, from the N/NW, turned into a nice day @ MO with winds subsiding to <10KTS by 1100Z. the reef kept the seas to around 1 FT with the onshore winds. i'll post shots from tim later,,,,

1ft seas, sunshine, offshore of the upper keys today. 1st dive: deep molasses, mdt current, blue water, viz 50FT, depth 55-86FT; super dive; turtles, uncommon hamlets, schools of ballyhoo, bar jacks and fishy. 2nd dive: southern shallow buoy @ mo, zero current, blue/green, viz 40FT, depth 20-38FT. fun dive with schools of horseye jacks, spadefish, goliath and black groupers,,,,

Luv luv LUV the turtle shots. Especially the one in post #43. So beautiful! I really need to get down to the keys ... I thought maybe the weekend of the 15th but it's not going to happen. One of these days I'll carve out the time. Really.
