After reading the breakdown, I actually considered it. However, as a relative scuba noob my options are:
- Buying this reg and having to say no to any extra scuba excursions
- Buying a cheaper reg and being able to say yes to more diving

Full disclosure: I've dropped $4500 on a pen without a second thought, so I have zero qualms about dropping eye-watering sums of money on things that people think are stupid.
Ouch! Was it King John's, Shakespeare's or John Hancock's?!?

Sell the pen...

(Jes sayin')
:rofl3:
Thinking the same thing .... but you beat me to it!

Kidding Aside ... the value of "ART" is highly subjective. Dive and Let Dive ...

You're all so funny.

The pen in question is a Montblanc Homage to Homer, limited edition. I have #671 of 1581. Considering I majored in Classical Greek and translated books 1 and 24 of The Iliad...it's not for sale.

Montblanc’s Homage to Homer (it's the red-ish one)

I'll save my pennies and buy a TFX next year. In the meantime, a DiveRite XT4 should serve me well and be there when I move into doubles. The TFX will stay my rec reg.

Let’s see Pilot + D series + superior machining and materials - difficulties of tuning = TFX

That's a fair question and one that comes up repeatedly in threads like this one, where the recurring issue is that Atomic Aquatic's high end regulators cost drastically more than their low/mid.-range regulators for added benefits seen by many as minor.

So, is AA parting fools from their money, or is this just a free market success story where it's worth it to some people, is AA price-gouging or just supplying a more elite market, etc...?
I don't see any issue at all here - those that see the benefits between the Atomic high end and low/mid-range regulators as minor can just buy the lower price items = their big issue/problem with Atomic is solved!

It also really can't be considered as price gouging when it's an optional purchase AND they offer lower priced options with similar performance... (and I'd bet we'll see the TFX 2nd stage design trickle down over time as well - but, at present, if you want it you'll need to pony up!)

To me, the fact that Atomic offers a range of similarly breathing regulators at a wide range of price points make the criticism of the price of the high end stuff just silly posturing!

BTW, all of this criticism peaked my interest, so I just ordered a TFX myself - Deal with it naysayers... lol (not you Richard - you are always balanced in your approach) .

Good for you - buy what makes you happy! By next year, the TFX reviews will also be well established and you might see the tech at lower price points too!

By marketing a regulator for "connoisseurs" or "affic

The implication is that if you don't dive an Atomic, you are an ignorant peasant who couldn't tell a decent reg from a hose pipe with a mouthpiece duct taped to it. Hmmmm, maybe that's where the hostility comes from. LOL

More like "socialist" view :)

Here is the dictionary definition of the word:

con·nois·seur
connoisseur
con·nois·seur [kònnə súr]
(plural con·nois·seurs)
noun
expert: an expert in an area of the fine or domestic arts, or somebody with discriminating taste in such a specialty

[Early 18th century. < French < connoistre "know" < Latin cognoscere(see cognition)]

-con·nois·seur·ship, noun

I don't see any issue with the word. No worse than the word "sophisticated"
